This is Garfield's birthday!! (In 1981, he would've been turning three!)

19 June 1981

Friday 9:00am

You were alone in the flat.

You were sat at the kitchen table.

You didn't feel much like eating.

...

He'd rushed out that night.

You'd realized... it was your first night alone in a while.

You'd slept separate the first couple weeks you were there, but not completely. Paul was only the next room over.

It was your first night properly alone... since April.

You tried to occupy yourself.

He wasn't cross at you, but...

The way he'd run off...

You couldn't feel hungry, but you knew you had to eat something, not just your nourishment at stake anymore. You'd eaten an orange.

You were so horribly worried...

Usually, you'd make breakfast for Paul, but he wasn't there.

He stalled.

You were both frozen.

There was a rich heat before. It had gone ice cold.

Your breath was held.

He knew you'd heard.

It wasn't something he could take back.

...

Paul pulled out, moving off of you, hasty within it. He knew what he'd just done.

You could feel the guilt and regret coming off him, even in the near-darkness of the room.

"I'm sorry-" He had rushed.

Your mind hadn't caught up. You were at a loss.

You didn't know what to do.

You sat up, a bit uncoordinated.

Going from hot to cold so quick. You still needed to catch up, blood still rushing back into your mind.

Without thought, your hand came up to brush your forehead.

Before you had a chance, Paul rushed out another apology.

"I'm sorry..."

His voice seemed choked, taken as off-guard as you were, but afraid to touch you.

...

You didn't know what to say. You sat still, looking at him, trying to catch up.

He was, very tense, searching your features, brows drawn, hesitant of what to say, frozen in place. He looked pale.

You didn't know what you felt. Odd, maybe.

It wasn't supposed to feel like nothing, was it?
