Over the next two weeks they worked on what powers Natalie might have. John and Natalie came to the decision not to tell anyone about Jaci Sasi, not yet anyways. Since Agatha did not know what powers Nat would, could, or did have, they went though maybe different odd things.
Agatha gave Natalie a beginners spell book, in disguise of course. It was supposed to help Natalie learn spells, so far naught. Natalie was also given a stick. Apparently it was a wand. (John had serious doubts.) The magic stick was going to help Nat focus her powers, if she could access them. She did manage to whack John with it accidentally.
John had been with them almost every day. First to help Natalie to be more comfortable, but let's be honest. He just really wanted to be with Nat. He was also maybe getting jealous of a slow, but forming friendship between the "witches". They shared something he might never understand.
The Wednesday three weeks after they talked to Agatha brought the next challenge. This challenge was for Nat to grow a sprout. She tried and tried, but nothing. She couldn't grow a tiny little sprout even a little bit.
----------------------------------------------------
I am getting frustrated. I have tried so many options. Why can't Natalie find her power? I can feel it. It is so strong! It has this foreign sense to it though. It is nothing like what I have. Ever since last October I have been looking into all these different abilities that I can harness, but none of them yet match Natalie.
"Okay, so that is a no the plant growing." I tell her.
"Agatha, are you sure there is magic in me?" Natalie asks. "Nothing has shown any sign yet."
"You have power. I promise." I encourage her. "No I am not yet sure what all it entails, but you have something."
John gets a thoughtful look on his face. He is thinking about something. I can't get a read on my classmate though. Not through social skills or any supernatural inclinations. Something just seems off. Either with him or Natalie or both. Is something not being said?
"Well, dear, there is one more option I can think of to help us." I tell her falling back into my mystic voice. "But in order for it to work, some of my family needs to know about you."
"Why?"
"Because I will need their help with the spell." I tell her.
"What spell?" John asked.
"It seems that the best and maybe only option left is to ask for help, and more than I can offer by myself. No, we need supernatural help. Now, do not worry. I will ask my aunts and grandmother for help and then we can look into the past deeper and deeper and see if we can find something." I tell them.
"Um.... if it is the only option." Natalie says.
"Okay." says John, "but first, what if Natalie tries something weathery. We haven't tried that yet."
"Maybe." I agree.
"Um? I am not sure." Natalie says. I can feel the nerves rolling off in waves.
"Well, there is one more piece of advice I wanted to offer." I say.
-------------------------------------------------
Agatha continued, "I have what most would call magic, but when I feel what is inside you, the word that comes is 'power'. And with power and most surrounding things, words (in whatever language) will not help much. It is all inside you. So, from now on, unless I tell you otherwise, when you try to do this, start with looking inside. Close your eyes, breath deeply, and feel inside yourself, look inside yourself for something. When you find it, latch on to it. Grasp it and embrace it. I can't give you all the instructions, tell you how it will feel, or even truly describe it. It is different for everyone and just impossible to explain. Stuff like this can't truly be taught, just guided and nurtured. You either have it or you don't."
"Well that went on a bit of a rabbit trail." John said.
"But it was beautiful. It sounds like this is going to get more annoying, but I think I understand what you are saying." Nat said.
So, Natty closed her eyes. She felt inside for that feeling that words cannot explain. After a few minutes something changed. The air got a bit colder. Frost and snowy fog started coming out of Natalie's long sleeves. Her hand visibly got colder and blueish. Ice and snow in a small spherical swirling shape started to form in her hand. Just as it started, it stopped.
At this point everyone's eyes were open again. They were silent.
"Wow." John said.
"Amazing. Your powers are definitely very different than my magic. It is like you have a cold touch." Agatha said.
John and Nat suddenly look at each other with realization. Agatha had a confused look on her face.
"You will need to practice that, my dear." Agatha said, putting it behind her for now.
