Chapter 47

They slowly limped toward the portal that was invisible to her eyes.

"Who all are coming?" Indriya asked.

"Soma, Yamya, Chag, Agni, Bilvani, Achintya and Adhyaksha." Anuthama listed the names. Agni still lay limp on the floor beside whom Achintya sat.

"What about the others? Aprameya and Vardhi? Gamya and Anuthama? Lekha?" She asked with genuine concern, Jagad Tamas would not leave them alone for sure and she was very certain that he could not have died so easily.

"We have our plans, and as for Vardhi and Aprameya, they can not leave this realm." Anuthama explained.

"What about... her?" She asked pointing at Samudra.

"I wish to come along if that is alright, my queen." Samudra clarified.

"No, Samudra, I need you here with me," Anuthama spoke hastily.

"But Agni will need.." She was talking but she was interrupted again.

"No, Agni has Indr... I mean everyone to take care of him, we need you here." Anuthama repeated rather sternly this time.

"I understand, I will remain here." She said softly as she walked over to Agni's side, something inside of Indriya writhed to see her go so close to him but she kept quiet.

She knelt beside him and leaned in for a kiss but Agni moved away.

"Samudra, I am not the same person you used to know, I have changed. Besides, I just lost my sister. I need some time. I would like it if you respectfully maintained the distance." He declared grimly.

Indriya hugged her grandmother and grandfather and smiled at them sadly. Her eyes welled up and so did theirs. Vardhi patted her on her head.

"Anuthama, I just wanted to thank you. Nobody would have done as much as you and Adhyaksha are doing for us." She shook his hand but Anuthama said, "Queen Indriya, remember, you are our queen. We shall forever serve you." He kissed the back of her hand and smiled. She returned the grim smile and walked toward the portal. Her clothes were a complete mess and the white saree she had worn was now deep greyish brown and was soaking wet.

But before she passed through it she looked at Gamya who was to her surprise sobbing profusely.

"I am sorry I couldn't bring your brother back."

"What are you saying, Princess? Lord Anuthama and chief Adhyaksha already helped my brother break out of prison two days before we even reached Bhadra. So you still held your word and I held mine." She smiled sadly and Indriya also smiled back grimly and shook her hand.

"I will come back, for I still have a kingdom to win. I still have a kingdom to rule." She glanced at all of them one last time before she climbed into the portal.

Indriya shut her eyes tightly and she realised that she was not on solid ground but was in mid-air, falling.

"Oh, not this again!" She yelled against the sound of the wind.

The ground was approaching with such speed that she didn't even have time to prepare herself before she hit solid ground and groaned at the pain. Soma and Yamya, on the other hand, landed on their feet like ballerinas.
