Chapter 15

Four weeks! She spent a month in this city town of Nirvana and she loved the place. The Nirvanians were peaceful people until one pointed a blade to their throats and provoked them. They will not allow such a person to cross the borders of the city, at least not without dicing him or her in pieces and feeding their flesh to their hounds.

So, her people, as Agni called them, were very strong willed people and they were peaceful and kind, unlike their present ruler. But he said all that would change once she became the Queen, which Indriya did not consider doing at all. At least for now, she supposed. She hardly knew how to fight and her

They ran every morning but that morning Agni made her run for a short while and said it was about time she learnt to fight. So there they were in the training room, which was actually empty. It had nothing in it, neither targets nor punching bags or even the gymnastic mats as a safety precaution, so if she fell.

"Princess, today I am only going to teach you how to block and dodge attacks, not that you need to learn it, you already have the instinct to protect in your blood. But your magic might not work all the time and you must always be on the safer side when you are on the battlefield, besides your physical strength will be an added advantage to you. So as your mentor, I will teach you how to dodge, block and sometimes defend yourself. Let's start." He explained.

He held her wrist a little too tightly, it hurt and pulled her close to him, until they were nose to nose with each other. She didn't wince as the grip grew tighter. "Free yourself, Princess." He ordered, quietly almost whispering.

Indriya couldn't do so much as move her hand in his grip, freeing herself was far, far away.

"It is the most basic move, I will give you a hint. How about this? What do you do if you have to open a jar?" He asked her.

"Turn it until the threads of the jar come free of the lid." She replied, her voice was quiet and calm. She was assessing the hint he gave her and she realised his fingers were somewhat of a kind of thread. So she twisted her hand but it was not hard enough so his hand lingered on hers and the skin turned red beneath his fingers due to the impact.

This time she used both her hands, she cupped her right with her left and pulled hard, and her hand was free. She examined her wrist, the skin was red and there were finger marks that were disappearing slowly.

"Good, let's practice that a few times shall we?" He said gripping her left hand this time.

They practiced it over and over again until her wrists looked like they were going to bruise and turn purple. But she liked the pain, the pain she felt after freeing herself and the way Agni would give her a cocky smile.

After a while, they stung slightly.

Suddenly Agni almost wheezed the breath out of Indriya when he did an upper body arm lock.

He gripped both her wrists, whirled her around and locked her arms over her chest, pulling her closer to him, so close that her back was touching his chest. His fingers were tight on her wrist and her forearms hurt due to the impact.

Indriya's heart was pounding, as she realised that Agni was literally hugging her, she could feel his steady breath over her shoulder, she was surprised that Agni didn't notice that her heart was trying to tear out of her chest and it was not just because of the training that they had started.

She suddenly realised how broad his shoulders were, they were able to cover her completely, like her shield. She felt his heart pick up the pace as well but she didn't react to it.
