Chapter 41

Agni could not breathe. He was restless. He couldn't stop himself from bracing the wall and leaning against her. But a certain something pulled him back. But the way she looked up at him, the world would dissolve around him if looked into her eyes any longer.

She was...irresistible. No matter how much he tried since the first time they met and when he saw her he knew she was trouble. She was pain and it almost hurt to be near her because she was so near yet so distant.

"Indriya." He called without actually wanting to. He should not be calling her because he doesn't deserve her. And yet she looked up at him, with such anticipation, it felt like a sin to love her.

It was a sin. He was committing a sin by hurting her so much. Nothing he did was fair to her. He was not fair to Mekhala, he did not deserve this.

The Princess slid her hands onto his waist beneath his shirt and buried her face into his chest. He could feel her heartbeat against his skin. Her heartbeat beside his own.

Her hands were warm against his cool back, her embrace had something he had not felt for so long that he had nearly forgotten what it would feel like. Love. Not comfort, not lust, not pity, but pure love.

Agni's eyes welled up, she had broken that horrible curse...

A rose, Agni was like a rose, a rose with so many thorns that no matter how many people tried to touch him he would always stain their warm hands red.

But she took the time to break those thorns, one by one, and stayed by his side, dared to touch his heart.

The hurt that flashed across her eyes when he had said that they were only allies, he had to let her go because one day he would have to go even if the curse was broken.

Because she was the light and he was the dark. Literally, by blood.

It took all of his will to not fold her in his arms. They stayed like that for god knows how much time. He didn't attempt to pull away and she didn't pull away either. She ran her hands over his chest where the flower still burnt a dim blue, he felt a ripple of power wherever she touched him.

The flames inside him ached and yearned to touch her power.

Agni realised how strong her power was to attract the dark flames.

The flames of darkness were getting attracted to light instead of repelling her.

'Just what are you, Princess?'

"Indriya, I like it when you call me by my name, Agni." She whispered.

Indriya? He would sit and chant her name all through eternity if that was what she wished for, he had already carved it into his mind without meaning to while now he simply wants to forget it. If that was even possible after what she just did. Forget about forgetting her name, he didn't even want her to move the smallest cell.

"Princess, The guards have left." He whispered softly, but she held on even tighter. "Let's...go home."

'Please, you're hurting me.'

He thought she would listen but her grip didn't loosen. Perhaps she unconsciously blocked his thoughts.

After a whole of a minute she pulled away and he felt the cold wind against the warmth she had spread. Suddenly, he missed her absence. Even then he wanted to wrap his arms around her and never pull away but...

Even before he knew it, Agni's hands moved toward his Princess and he wrapped his hands around her waist, pulling her up close. He buried his face in her neck, which was stained with tears, tears of grief and joy but mostly love.
