SATURDAY, DECEMBER 27th 1987

i open my front door allowing corey to step inside.

"hey, so feldman couldn't make it. said he's got an appointment to go to." he explains as he walks into the foyer.

"that's fine." i say, closing the door behind us.

"i didn't know if i should bring anything. i guess there's not much to really study off of when it comes to future events that haven't even happened yet. well, they've happened for you." he turns to look at me for the first time as we stand in the kitchen, "where are we going?"

"my room." i say.

there's a delayed response as his mouth is agape. he quickly nods his head, blinking his gaze away from me, "alright."

corey and i have barely talked since the night of his birthday. it didn't really end on a good note with the two of us seeing things.

"you get taller or something?" i question. he looks different, older.

"maybe." he says, shoving his hands in the pockets of his black and yellow varsity jacket.

"i wonder if time traveling through the years is showing on us. growing up and stuff." i mumble, heading towards the fridge, "you thirsty or anything?"

"n-no thanks. i was gonna say maybe it's just the hangover that had me beat the past couple days, but you look different too."

"how?" i ask, as i grab 2 water bottles down from the shelf.

"i don't know. are those new jeans?"

i turn around as i shut the refrigerator door.

"no?" i say in a questioning tone as i walk towards him.

"hm." he nods his head, his eyes trailing up my frame until they meet my eyes as i stand right in front of him.

"you sure you're not thirsty? cause you look it." i grab his forearm and place the water bottle in his hand.

"ha-ha." he teases sarcastically, unscrewing the lid and taking a sip. "wait, how do i look thirsty?"

i smile to myself at his inability to understand modern day slang. "happy 1991."

"oh shit. that's right ... i really just spent my only days of '89 and '90 being hungover as a bitch."

"it's okay, i spent my days at school, remember?"

a soft laugh is muffled behind his closed lips, "so technically ... to everyone else ... you're 21 and i'm 20 right now."

"give or take, yeah. i guess we are."

he nods his head as he continues to look down at me with an expression i can't quite figure out.

"snap out of it." i say, before heading towards the stairs.
