31. Contradictions

The room is silent as we sit around waiting for someone to make the first move to the door. My nerves are shot and my leg continues to bounce until I can no longer take it.

I shoot up from the couch and place my attention on Gale.

"Are we ready? I question worriedly.

"Yes. We will be fine," Gale reassures me. "Don't worry."

I nod, giving a tight smile despite the worry hanging heavy over my head.

"Alright." Blane stands, taking up the space to the left of me. "'I've talked to my bartender and he will stay by your side to keep an eye on you."

"Thanks, Blane. Why don't you go check on Blaze; he's in the back with Benji. I'm sure he'd like to see you."

Blane nods understanding that I want to speak to the other three alone and walks out of the room.

I'm surrounded by three of the most important people in my life and none of us can say a word. They are worried. It's painted on their faces and they can't hide it. I can't say I'm not either but I trust them.

A silent conversation transpires between the four of us. There is no telling what's going to happen tonight but I'm taking the chance and meeting the woman who may be my biological mother. It rattles my nerves to even think about it.

"You have to be careful. Okay? I know you love him but you need to worry about yourself too."

I shake my head at Rhea but I'm sure she can see something I can't or at least something I don't want to. Even if it is love we aren't ready for that just yet I don't think.

"It's okay," Rhea reassures. "There is no time limit on love, with Gale it was love at first sight. I think he loves you too, he just needs help to see it."

"It wasn't love at first sight, maybe the third or fourth with Kelsey but it was easy to fall in love with her. She made it easy."

I couldn't help but smile at the memories I had of Kelsey and Isa. "If anyone here deserves it, it's you, Isa." I say pulling her into a hug. I feel like with everything going on with Blaze I haven't had any time for anything else. I have no clue what's been going on with school and I've completely forgotten about Gale and Rhea's engagement. Isa and I haven't talked as much and if that doesn't constitute a bad friend I don't know what does.

"Thanks but I think being alone is what I need right now. I'm just not ready to move on."

I smile, understanding her feelings, and open my arms. Gale, Rhea, and Isa join in and we wrap our arms around each other. Surrounded by nothing but love I know the three of us will be forever.

"Ready?" I speak as Blane walks back in.

"Yeah, we're good."

"Okay then," I separate the four of us. "I'll be back in a minute and then we can go."

He nods and I walk past him making my way to Blaze. I smile as I see him playing fetch with Benji. I think he can sense Blaze needs someone and Benji has always been a lover. Since losing Kelsey he becomes attached easily and Blaze has definitely taken up a space in his heart.

"Hi." I take a seat beside Blaze. "I just wanted to tell you bye, I should be back later tonight."

"Okay." He turns and softly captures my lips, taking me by surprise. My eyes flutter shut as I press myself against him inhaling his scent and imprinting his lips on mine. The kiss finally ends when he pulls away and I smile resting my forehead against his.
