The stranger nods his head at me and turns back to the bar signaling the bartender to get our drinks. His white shirt rising just an inch but enough for me to see the tiniest sliver of skin showing.
His eyes catch mine but this time it feels different, more reserved. He swallows, his Adam's apple bobbing, and I can feel the nervousness rolling off his body in waves.
In a matter of seconds, his entire demeanor changed. The confidence that once was is no more only to be replaced with the shy retreating man that stands before me.
My eyes leave him and drift behind his shoulder as another man walks up beside him and slaps his shoulder. He jumps stiffening but relaxes as he sees who it is.
"Nice job man." The stranger praises. "You almost looked like a natural." His dark brown hair matches that of the first man and similarities draw me in as they stand side by side.
The first man mutters under his breath as our drinks are sat in front of us. I spin to Isabel and she shrugs her shoulders winking at me before walking off. I should have known that was coming.
"Hi." I speak up as I turn back to the two men.
"Bro, you going to answer her?"
The first man jumps, and he looks to me. I receive a small smile but nothing more as he lifts the glass bringing the rim to his lips. I admire him as he takes a small sip. His movements slow and calculated as every muscle pops out with each subtle flex of his arm.
"Don't worry about him, he's not one for social interactions." The second man whispers and holds out his hand. "I'm Blane."
I laugh at his cordial greeting much different than what I usually receive in clubs. Most guys go straight for the home run with some overused pickup line and a drink to get me tipsy. I'm no easy lay, even I have my limits, and men who try too hard are at the top of my list.
I take his hand shaking it. "Hi, I'm Blitz. It's nice to meet you. And who is this?" I say referring to the nameless shy guy standing next to me. Blane nudges him and his face turns sour as he turns back to me. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but it would be nice to know the name of the man who bought my friend and me a drink."
"Blaze." His voice is no higher than a whisper, but I hear him clearly over the loud music and voices.
I repeat his name back softly and it rolls off my tongue smoothly. "I like it." A small smile creeps onto my face and I bite my lip to keep it from showing. "So, do you want to sit with me? It's only fair."
"He'd love to." Blane chimes in for him giving Blaze no room to turn down my offer. "You know where to find me if you need me. Have fun tonight and maybe get laid." He slaps Blaze's back and saunters off. Blaze stares him down until he's out of sight and turns back to me taking a seat.
"I take it you don't get out much?"
He shakes his head swirling the liquid in his glass. "Much less than that."
"So, what changed?" I ask out of curiosity.
"My brother owns the place and wanted me to be here."
I nod my head understanding and twist my body around to scan the seating across the club. I spot an open table in the back corner and stand up grabbing my drink. His eyes follow me as I hold out my hand for him to take. I can see the wheels churning in his head and I step to him before he turns me down completely. "I don't bite. I just want to get somewhere a little quieter."
