The pair arrived at Violet flat where she shut the door. They waited for her phone to ring again the two watching the object as she had placed it on the kitchen bench. That way she wouldn't miss the call.
"Who's Agent Smith?" Neddy asked.
"An agent."
"Yeah, but Smith. We're normally named after numbers."
That was true for the most part. Violet was Agent twenty-five and Neddy was Agent fourteen. The only ones that didn't have a number had been higher ups or Younkin who was Head Leader of the Magic Force base.
"She could be a higher up."
"It's always a Smith."
"What's that meant to mean?"
"Come on Violet. Smith is the most common surname in the world."
"So?"
"So, I'm just saying I know far too many Smiths and none of them are even blood relate. How does that work?"
She rolled her eyes. She's heard Neddy whined about the surname Smith for the last three years. His great, great, great grandmother was a Smith. He had a best friend in high school who was a Smith. He met some person down town with the name Smith he knew an old co-worker with the name Smith. She get's it, Smith was rank one of the top five most common surnames in the world and she had Neddy to thank for telling her each time someone new with the name Smith had entered the pair lives.
The phone started to ring. She smiled knowing it was here to save her from another conversation about Smith, and how there not all related and why are their so many of them. Because Neddy didn't like hearing sound logic when she told him surnames, we're normally based on what a person did for a living and since in the old days before they had guns for weapons there was so many black smiths in town. Of course, that wasn't the answer Neddy had wanted and Violet never knew what answer he was looking for whenever he brought it up.
"Hello."
"Agent Twenty-Five and Agent Fourteen, correct?" Agent Smith said.
She didn't sound so unsure now, but indeed sounded like a higher up firm with her words, blunt and straight to the point.
"Yeah, is it still the same for you guys. You know Magic Force bases being gone?"
"Mostly, I've heard that one of the Head Leaders is in Newcastle. Can I speak to him?"
"I would love to pass you the phone to him Agent Smith. I really would, but that's the issue he's one of the missing Agents."
"How many Agents are missing?"
"Agent Fourteen and I haven't gone through with a full-on search just let Agent Smith. But to what we know of it's just us so far. Nobody, else has contact us."
"You mean to tell me all of your Agents we're at base?"
Agent Smith didn't at all sound pleased. While Younkin was often chill and relaxed. Agent Smith reminded Violet of her late grandmother, always bossy and on point. She felt sorry for Muswellbrook Agents who had to put up with her as a higher up.
"There was a party on at the time most of the Agents we're there."
"And, you weren't?"
"No, Agent Smith."
"Why?" Agent Smith demanded.
Great, just what Violet needed a higher up thinking she had no life. She supposed having Agent Smith think that Violet Gershon had no life was better than admitting that Younkin Kitsune, Head Leader to the Magic Force was actually a party animal that wouldn't know hard work if it hit him on top of the head.
