{We all knew- Labrinth}

You got to the airport and sorted out the whole luggage and passport situation. You and Sam stopped at a restaurant that was in the gate and decided to have some breakfast.

You flipped through the menu trying to find your ideal breakfast at the airport early in the morning. Sam had already chosen what he wanted and was waiting for you.
"I think I'll just have some coffee." You closed the menu.
"Are you sure? They have omelette."
"If it's not made by you I don't want it." You said honestly, not even meaning to compliment him.
He smiled "Alright, but the plane food is gross."
"It's not a long flight, I think I'll be fine."

Sam called over the waiter and you ordered your food.
As you waited for the food you and Sam had a small conversation.
"I really appreciate it Y/N. I know Bucky was sad about you leaving, I could tell."
"It's fine, I think he'll manage one day without me Sam." You grinned.
"I know I'm taking your guys' time together and-"
"Sam, its fine. It's all fine, I love you too you know. You've been around for a much longer time than Bucky and there's nothing I wouldn't do for you."

He didn't look convinced. He genuinely thought that you don't want to be here, that's why he was so eager to pay for everything.

After eating you boarded the plane and you pretty much slept through the whole flight. You woke up during the last 40 minutes when they were handing out drinks and snacks. Sam however was asleep. You decided not to bother him and just get him some salted almonds and water. You also got yourself some water and a pack of string American cheese.

You were looking out the window finishing your last string of cheese when you heard Sam moving. You turned around seeing him blinking and trying to fully wake up.
"I got you almonds." You smiled pointing to the front pocket of the seat in front of you.
"Oh thanks." He noticed the bottle of water next to them and took it.
"You sleep?" He asked.
"Yeah, I woke up like 10 minutes ago." You said.

"Oh I see." He said tiredly.
"You can still sleep, we've got like half an hour left, I'll wake you up when we start landing."
He nodded. You knew Sam needed to be woken up before landing, because if he wasn't he'd have trouble with his ears. Most people have this problem. Their ears don't pop by themselves when they swallow, the have to block their nose and force air out through their ears. Doesn't always work though.

Once you and Sam flew to LA and you didn't wake him up because at that time you didn't know and he forgot to tell you. He ended up waking up in pain whining and whimpering. That was around seven and a half years ago, both of you were very young.

You smiled at the memory, the young part not the part with Sam crying. All though it was kinda funny.

Speaking about funny, this trip was going to be very depressing. Or at least you felt like it was going to be. Something must really be going on with Sam since he asked you to come with him, he usually always goes by himself and never lets anyone accompany him.

You decided you were going to be extra gentle and extra quiet, and when you can you would try lighten his mood a little.

Sam ended up falling asleep and at one point he slid down onto your shoulder. You smiled and took a funny selfie that you were going to send to Steve once you've landed. You leaned your head onto his and closed your eyes. You felt calm and at peace. You thought about going to sleep too, but thankfully remembered that you needed to wake Sam up.

After the captains 15 minute announcement you began shaking Sam awake.
"Sam," you whispered into his ear, pushing him off your shoulder. "Saaaaam." You got him to sit up. He folded forward and hit his head on the seat in front and instantly woke up.
"What? Huh?"
You snickered. "We're ascending. Gum?"
He rubbed his forehead nodding. Gum helped to unblock your ears better, sometimes Sam would have jelly beans, but none of those were around.

After landing without any accidents you made your way out of the airport and caught a taxi to drive you to your hotel. It was roughly an hour away and Sam snored on your lap while you looked out the window. You passed familiar malls and streets, parks and fountains. It was all so nostalgic. You remembered how you and Bucky stayed at your apartment (that then got blown up but let's not think about that right now).

All the bars and clubs you and Sam went to were still there. The drinking races you had were awesome.

"Chug!Chug!Chug!"
"Go Sam!"
"Go Y/N!"
CLANG!
"Haha beat you this time Y/N!"

You smiled at the thought. You and Nat used to hang out here all the time too. Now the both of you lived in New York. She was an Avenger, you were, well, friends with a bunch of them.

"Wow this is actually nice." You said looking around the room as Sam closed the door behind you. The room was spacious and had beige interior. There were two beds with a night stand separating them. "Im taking the right side!" You yelled jumping on to the bed. You looked over at Sam who wasn't so cheerful. Your smile quickly faded. He looked tired and sad. He rolled his suitcase over to his bed and sat down on the corner of it.

"You okay?" You said. Now. You know how when you're on the verge of crying and someone comes over to ask if you're okay, and you just start crying instantly just because they sad that. Well this is sort of what happened here except Sam just fell back onto the bed and covered his face.
Literally what happened? You were so confused, was this just because of his friend, or was there something else?

You got off your bed and walked over to his. You laid down next to him and hugged him from the side. He put his hands around you and sighed. Thank god he wasn't actually crying, otherwise it would've been very awkward.
"Sam what's going on?" You whispered.
"A lot." He breathed.
You squeezed him, almost like trying to get all of the sadness out of him.

"What's 'a lot'?"
"Just a lot."
Clearly he didn't want to tell you. But you didn't want to pry so you just left it.
"So we gonna go see Riley's Family?"
He tensed up, but you felt him nod.

You changed into fresh clothes and rented one of the hotel cars for a couple of hours.
On your ride there you listened to some music.
Sam was silent, you'd hum the words that you knew.

You stopped at the familiar cemetery and left the car. It was around 3:00pm and the sun was shining. As you got out of the car you asked Sam "Are we going to see his family after?"
He didn't reply. Usually you'd visit his family before going to visit him, but maybe things changed. After all it wasn't that big of a deal.

You walked down the isles seeing some other people here to visit their loved ones. The atmosphere was very heavy emotionally, Sam was clearly upset. You walked behind him without saying a single word.

You made it to Riley. Sam stopped looking down. You walked up next to him and what you saw next made your jaw drop.
