1977
I had just finished showering when I heard music coming from my dorm. I quickly put on some clothes and went to see what was going on. I opened the door to Adeola and Zaina dancing around the room in their knickers. 'EIRAAA!' they yelled while pulling me into the room and started serenading me:'That nasty boogie bugs me
But somehow it has drugged me
Spellbound rhythm gets me on my feet.' Zaina
'I've changed my life completely
I've seen the lightning leave me
My baby just can't take her eyes off me.'
I grabbed my hairbrush and sang into it:
'Don't blame it on the sunshine
Don't blame it on the moonlight
Don't blame it on good times
Blame it on the boogie'We started singing in unison on my bed:
'Don't you blame it on the sunshine
Don't blame it on the moonlight
Don't blame it on good times
Blame it on the boogie
Woo'Suddenly Marlene entered the room: 'You know even the Slytherins can hear you from the dungeon.' I smirked at her while motioning with my finger for her to come join us. 'I just can't control my feet.' 'I'm not singing Eira.' 'I just can't, I just can't' I placed my brush in front of her mouth, 'I just can't control my feet.' she finishes the lyrics. We started dancing around the room. 'Blame it on the boogie.' Adeola got on her bed while we danced around and sang at us: 'Don't you blame it.' 'Sunshine' 'You just got to' 'Moonlight' 'You just want to' 'Good times' 'Yeah, oh' 'Boogie' We kept singing at each other while dancing our hearts out. The nerves I had for the ball had long disappeared.
After our little concert it was time to get ready for the ball. Marlene helped me with my makeup and then I helped her with her hair. Adeola and Zaina had put on their blue and green dresses and were finishing up their looks by rummaging through my jewellery. Marlene left to get dressed in her own dorm. 'Well Eira, can we finally see the dress you bought?' I smiled at them: 'It's getting quite late, aren't your dates waiting for you? .' 'You're unbelievable.' I laughed: 'Trust me it's worth the wait, now get out of here so I can change in peace.' 'Fine.' they said in choir. 'Girls?' 'Yes, Eira?' They turned around to face me. 'You look beautiful.' I ran up to them and gave them a hug 'Have fun tonight.'
I looked at myself in the mirror one last time, I had never felt this beautiful before. I grabbed my purse and put my father's latest letter in it, just for safekeeping. I opened the dormroom and peaked my head out to see if anyone was around. The coast was clear so I walked out and down the stairs. I arrived in the common room where Marlene was waiting for me. She was wearing a silver dress with lots of skin showing. 'Very, scandalous Mckinnon.' 'You know me, I have to stay on brand,' She said with a wink 'Well look at you. Where has this body been hiding?' She twirled me around. 'Oh you know, just under an unflattering school uniform.' 'Well, now that the boys see what you've been hiding, I'm sure going to have a hard time keeping you to myself this evening.' 'Yeah, yeah, let's just get out of here.'
