Amos Diggory

1978

I hadn't got up that early in a while, but I knew that I had a job to do that Monday morning. I quickly got dressed and went downstairs, but not before telling Adeola to be in the great hall in exactly 30 minutes. She wouldn't want to miss what I had planned for Diggory. As I arrived at the Gryffindor tower Sirius was already waiting for me. 'Do you have it?' 'Good morning to you too Eira, of course I have it. You ask, I deliver.' From his back pocket appeared a small vial, I went to grab it but before I could he held it back, 'Wait a minute, what am I getting in return for helping you?' I gave him a look, 'Come on Sirius, I'm poor so you'll just have to suffice with my eternal gratitude.' 'I have a better idea.' I was scared of what he would say next, knowing how unpredictable he was. 'How 'bout a promise that you'll be nice to me.' 'Are you being serious?' 'I'm always Sirius, so do we have a deal?' I didn't really get why my attitude mattered that much to him, but nonetheless I agreed. 'So how does this exactly work?' I asked as I looked at the vial. 'It's quite simple, you empty the whole thing in his pumpkin juice and that's it. The effect will take a couple of minutes, so plenty of time to distance yourself from the crime scene. Although I don't think the teachers would suspect you.' 'Okay, simple enough.' It sounds stupid but I was quite nervous, I had never pranked anyone before.

Adeola and Zaina were already waiting at the Ravenclaw table for me when I entered the Great Hall. 'So what exactly are you going to do?' I smirked at them 'Let's just say everyone will see him for the two-timing pig that he is. But before I can do that I need your help.' Both Adeola and Zaina were eager to help get revenge on Diggory. After I instructed Adeola to distract Diggory Zaina and I made our way to the Hufflepuff. When I arrived at Diggory's empty seat Zaina gave me a strategic push, which resulted in pumpkin juice spilling everywhere. 'Oh gosh, how clumsy of me.' quickly I grabbed a napkin and started cleaning the table, earning apoplectic looks from the Hufflepuffs surrounding Amos' vacant seat. 'Let me just grab Amos some new pumpkin juice and I'll be out of here.' Under the table I swiftly emptied the vial in Amos' cup and then handed the cup to Zaina to fill. From across the room Adeola, who was keeping Diggory busy with conversation, gave me a look, I nodded, signing that we had finished. 'Sorry again.' I said to no one in particular before Zaina pulled me back to the Ravenclaw table. 'Now we wait.'

Only a few minutes had passed when I heard a screech coming from the Hufflepuff table. Before I could even turn my head I heard it again but louder. The normally bustling Great Hall suddenly became very quiet, everyone confused as to where that noise was coming from. 'OINK' my eyes fell on Amos Diggory whose once handsome face had turned into that of a pig. My hand flew to my mouth, pleasantly surprised by the potions good work. 'OINK OINK.' Amos said while everyone stared at him. Probably embarrassed to death he rapidly got up from his seat and started to make a run for it. Zaina jumped up, 'He hasn't learned his lesson just yet.' from the table she grabs an apple and like the chaser she is, throws it right on Diggory's head. 'Oiiink' he screeches out in pain 'There's your apple, you stuffed pig.' she calls out. As most things Zaina's actions had consequences and by throwing that apple she put in motion what would be known as the big foodfight of 1978.

Through the crossfire of all kinds of foods Adeola gave me a big hug, something we didn't do often. 'Thank you, Eira.' 'It was my pleasure, now let's get out of here before we get in trouble.' Professor Flitwick was already scolding first years at the head of our table and I wasn't in the mood to be next. As Adeola, Zaina and I manoeuvred through the flying food I glanced at the Gryffindor table, where the Marauders were having the time of their lives. James was on the table throwing whatever he could towards the Slytherin table, Peter was handing him ammunition while Remus dodged all the food coming their way with a flick of the wand. Lastly I spotted Sirius and Marlene sitting together under an invisible umbrella, watching the scene unfold in front of them as food fell everywhere but on them. When Sirius spotted me looking their way he gave me a big thumbs up while Marlene waved my way. Thinking of my promise I decided it would be best to at least try to keep to it, so I mustered a smile and waved back.

When I arrived at potions students were still talking about the foodfight and some even still smelled of it. As I took my usual seat I wondered if the seat next to me would be occupied. Even though Regulus and I were on good terms I doubted friendship would be in our future. Maybe if I was a pureblood Slytherin or he was just Regulus not the only heir left to a pureblood family. But for now our relationship would be limited to comforting each other behind closed doors. When Regulus finally did enter the classroom he did take a seat next to me, 'So judging from my brother's excitement, he definitely had something to do with that fiasco at breakfast?' although he was talking to me, his gaze was focused on the front of the class, where professor Slughorn was rummaging around. 'Yes, something like that.' I wanted to tell him it was my prank and that Sirius was only helping but I didn't. Whenever I was around Regulus he made me nervous, I made sure to think twice before I said something to him. 'He has humor, I'll give him that.' Regulus muttered under his breath. This made me laugh, I'll let Sirius have this one.

At dinner the great hall looked spotless, the evidence of there ever being a foodfight long gone. Adeola and Zaina were already sitting at our usual spot as I arrived. 'I heard a fourth year say he saw Amos crying in the infirmary.' Adeola told us. 'Don't you mean screeching?' Zaina asked while pulling her nose up and making pig noises, causing Adeola and I to burst out laughing. 'Ahem.' a voice said from behind us, as we spotted Professor Flitwick we quickly stopped laughing. 'Ladies, it has come to my attention that you were somehow involved with the incident from this morning.' I gave the others a look trying to act as if I had no idea what he was talking about. 'I did throw the apple, Professor but it was never my intention to cause a foodfight.' Zaina confessed. 'I have witnesses from the Hufflepuff table who saw you two do something to mister Diggory's goblet, right before he got uh.. poisoned.' I cursed internally, so much for nice Hufflepuffs. 'You three leave me with no choice but to give you a month's detention and you can forget the Hogsmeade trip.' 'A month, professor, that is just barbaric.' Adeola exclaimed, 'Watch your tone young lady or I'll make it two.' Professor Flitwick threatened. 'Fuck.' Zaina said once Flitwick was out of earshot. 'Still worth it though.' Adeola added, 'If we leave dinner now we might still be able to see Diggory crying.' I said, Adeola and Zaina gave each other a look. 'You're just full of great ideas lately, Eira.'
