1977
It was the day of the Hogsmeade trip when I heard frantic knocking on my door. Seeing as Adeola and Zaina had already left for breakfast, I had to open the door. Grumpily I got out of bed and opened the door.‘What took you so long?’ Marlene practically screamed at me, then she saw my appearance. ‘Did you sleep in the Dark Forest, what is going on with your hair?’
I quickly tried to flatten my hair with my hands, with little to no luck: ‘I thought I could sleep in for once, seeing as my only plans for the day are a visit to the library. So you better have a real good reason for disturbing my sleep.’
‘I need your opinion on my outfit.’ I sigh but say: ‘Okay, let’s see it then.’
She opens her coat to show her outfit. Marlene was wearing a turtleneck with a dress overtop and sheer tights. ‘Isn’t that a bit cold, you might freeze to death.’
‘Stop exaggerating this is serious business. Besides looking hot trumps being warm.’
‘You know you look good Marlene, I don’tf know why you need my opinion. Now if you could leave I could still catch a couple hours of sleep.’
‘No you have slept enough for the rest of the year. You don’t think I’m stupid going on a date with Sirius?’
‘Marlene, since when do you care what others think? If you want to go on that date you shouldn't let anyone tell you not to, not even me.’
Marlene smiled and hugged me: ‘You’re the best, I’ll see you after.’ And just like that she was gone.

It was already after lunch when I entered the library. It was eerily quiet seeing as almost everybody went to Hogsmeade. I walked to the back of the library and took a seat at a table. I didn’t have much work but was planning ahead, I was after all a ravenclaw. After I had been working for a good hour I heard someone pass my table. I didn’t look up at first but my curiosity got the best of me. Tall, dark curly hair and a quick pace. Whoever it was, arrived at their desired table and took a seat while I turned back to my work. I couldn’t help but catch a quick glance, unfortunately he was looking at my table as well and for a split second I had eye contact with Regulus Black. I quickly looked away, not wanting to give the impression that I was staring. I wondered why he wasn’t at Hogsmeade, he’s quite good looking so I expected one of his fellow slytherins to want to have him as company. But come to think of it, I had never seen him with a girl, not that I was looking.
An hour later Regulus started gathering his stuff and got up from his chair. I kept my eyes glued to my parchment, not wanting to repeat what had happened earlier. He started walking towards the front of the library and I could swear when he passed me his finger slowly tapped my table. I looked up but he was already gone. It was probably nothing, just my imagination.
‘There you are!’, I nearly jumped up, I was so concentrated on my work I hadn’t realised Marlene was standing next to me.
‘What are you still doing here? I know you don’t have that much work to do.’
‘I was just working ahead, filling my Saturday.’
‘That sounds like fun, now let’s go to dinner.’ I nodded quickly gathering my stuff.
‘So how was your date?’
‘Marvelous, he kisses even better than how Aileen described.’‘Probably because he got a lot more practice in since they dated.’ It was then that Madam Pince gave us an annoyed look and shushed us. We quickly left the library but not before Marlene muttered ‘Old hag.’ under her breath.
After Marlene had told me all the details of her date she went to talk to her dormmates who were very interested to hear how it went. I was planning on leaving the great hall but then I thought back to Regulus’ tapping and couldn’t help myself from looking at the Slytherin table. He was sitting in between other sixth years who seemed to be deep in conversation. He however was just eating in silence. It was weird while looking at Regulus; it felt like I was looking at myself. I noticed I was staring so I quickly stopped and left the great hall.
When I arrived back at my dorm room Zaina and Adeola were sitting on the floor eating their newly bought sweets from Honeydukes. They offered me some and I was in a nice mood so sat down and ate with them.
‘Eira, you will not believe who Adeola snogged at Hogsmeade.’
‘Severus?’ I joked.
‘Oh will you stop it with that dumb joke, otherwise I’m not sharing my chocolate with you.’ Adeola said fake offended.
‘Okay I’ll stop bringing up Snape, well tell me then who was the lucky guy.’
‘Amos Diggory’ Zaina shrieked.
‘Oh wow, how did that happen?’ I asked.
‘We were walking towards Madam Puddifoot's Tea Shop when he came up to me. He asked if he could buy me a drink at the pub, which I obviously replied yes to, then after our drink he gave me a kiss. I basically manifested that.’ Adeola told me excitedly.
‘Adeola tell her what happened next.’
‘Give me a minute Zaina. He asked me if I wanted to be his yule ball date.’
‘But the yule ball isn’t for months.’
‘I know, he said he wanted to make sure I was his date before anyone else asked me. He’s so romantic.’
‘You’re so lucky Adeola, isn’t she so lucky Eira?’ Zaina asked me, ‘Yes very lucky. Well thank you for the chocolate girls, but it’s time for me to turn in.’
I stood up from my floor and started to get ready for bed. Once my head hit my pillow I started to think. I know I never wanted a boyfriend but now hearing Adeola being so excited over one I started to wonder if that was still true. Maybe a boyfriend could bring me the happiness I was missing in my life, it’s not like I had ever had an offer but still. I thought back to John’s words: ‘You don’t put yourself out there.’. Maybe that’s why I’m so lonely, but why should I change for someone else? I thought that wasn’t what love was about. But what do I know about love?
