My parents held me in their arms for as long as they could. They told me how much they lived me and how much they would miss having me in their home.
The Queen waved me over after about two minutes of watching my parents tell me how much they loved me.
My family had no choice. They had to give me up.
"Bye Brynn!" My sister said. I can't hate her forever. I waved bye to them all, and I ran back on the stage to the Queen.
She put her arm around my shoulder.
"Now let's go to my castle." She said smiling. I smiled back. Tears were in my eyes as I looked back at my family, who was waving goodbye to me.
"Okay." I said, looking back at the Queen.
She lead me to a carriage and we drove off to this magnificent, big and bold castle just on the border of the town. I couldn't believe the Queen chose me out of all the other children she just killed to be her daughter. It's never happened before. I glanced at her hands. They were caked in blood and tiny bone fragments. I looked away from the horrible sight.
The carriage slowed a little as we entered the gates leading to the castle. I gasped in awe. My dirty old house could not compare to this majestic sight.
"Wow..." I said. "I can't believe I'm gonna live here!"
The Queen laughed.
"You're going to be a princess...Princess Brynn!"
I looked at her with big eyes. My heart raced. I was excited to live here. I suddenly forgot about all the murders I had just witnessed. This was awesome.
"Will I see my family ever again?" I asked as I remembered them.
The Queen thought for a minute.
"Maybe."
I missed them. But riches were too good to pass up.
Once we arrived, a servant came from the castle and she quickly helped me and the Queen out of the carriage.
"Who's this lovely lady?" The servant said in her Spanish accent with a huge smile on her face as she helped me out.
"Brynn McAlister." the Queen said. "She's my new daughter, and she'll be the new princess!"
The servant congratulated me. She looked at my clothes and made a face.
"Um...are you going to change her choice of wardrobe?" She asked.
The Queen nodded.
"I have dresses with diamonds sewn into them that will be sure to fit her!" She said as she walked into the castle.
I gasped after hearing that. Wow...diamonds!!!
"Lucky duck..." the servant muttered. I giggled.
"Oh, my name is Iña. I'm one of Queen Mathilda's servants." She said. I smiled and introduced myself again.
I never knew the Queen's name. It's about time I knew; I'm her new daughter!
I adjusted my gaze at the castle's interior. My eyes widened at the sight I was seeing...
Gold engraved details on the walls, a huge chandelier, windows that were triple- maybe quadruple my size, a spiral staircase with bronze railings and a golden hem, gold curtains shinier than the sun, and a whole cluster of servants that came to greet me. They weren't expecting me there, and they each asked about who I was.
"I'm Brynn McAlister." I said. Within the group of servants were 6 girls and 8 boys. All of them looked fairly young. And most were of Spanish descent. Each servant introduced themselves. There was Sammy, Iña, Dorothy, Lia, Zappa and Hannah. Then there were Robert, Rico, Lupe, Juan, Allen, Geronimo, Will, and Fred.
They all seemed nice, and I was excited when Queen Mathilda assigned me my own personal servant that would tend to my needs. She picked Lia, who stepped up to me with a smile on her face. Her icy gray eyes seemed warm and welcoming, and I knew that I would love it here.
"Lia will show you around, change up your wardrobe, show you your bedroom, and so on. We will meet up in the garden at 6 o'clock." Queen Mathilda said. I watched as she followed Iña out of the foyer and into a hallway that turned left.
Lia lead me to a room upstairs that was bigger than my old house.
"This will be your room." She said, opening the door for me to enter. My jaw dropped.
The ceiling had Angels painted on it. There was a chandelier here too, and the bed was HUGE. It had a shimmery bronze canopy hanging over the umbrella-like poles over the mattress.
The pillows were neatly stacked, and I noticed the gold buttons and fringes on each one. On the end of the bed, there was a leather chest with a bronze lock. I ran my fingers over it as I walked around the room.
There was a mirror that touched the ceiling and ended at the floor.
The windows were big and there was a glass set of double doors that lead to a small balcony.
A walk-in closet was in the left corner of the whole bedroom, and on the left of that door was a golden embroidered dresser. I spun around and inhaled the rich scent of this amazing room.
"This is all for me!?" I exclaimed. Lia nodded.
"Wait till you see your wardrobe!" She said, opening the closet door and turning on a light switch. I followed her inside. This closet was almost the size of the bedroom itself. There was a cute little golden vanity with a makeup kit on it. The dresses that hung on the racks were worth millions, maybe even more a piece. I looked at one in particular, it was jade green and had a golden hem at the ends. I touched it with care.
"It's awesome." I said, looking at Lia. She grinned and patted my head.
"A princess deserves the best!" She said. I laughed.
"I feel so special...that Queen Mathilda chose me to live with her. Did she plan on it? Since all this stuff is here and it's made for my size..." I said. Lia's smile faded.
"The queen had a 15 year old daughter once. Her name was Brianna. She died of food poisoning about 3 years ago. This was her room. You know, Brynn, you are lucky to have this room. No one has been able to enter it until now. The Queen must like you so much that she assigned this room for you. Treat her and this room with respect, okay?" Lia said, grasping my shoulder. I nodded.
"Let me show you around, now." Lia said, motioning for me to follow.
Ten minutes ago, this wouldn't have been something I would even imagine doing.
