I ran out of my bedroom and down the gleaming hallway to Ty's room. I banged on the door until he opened it.
"What's up babe?" He asked in an odd tone.
"I think I know a way out of here!" I whispered. Ty's eyes widened.
"You want to leave this place?" He asked, opening his bedroom door further out so I could see his room. I was quite shocked by the sight. The bed was a pretty blue color, like his eyes. The windows were large like mine. Sports posters were on the walls, and the room seemed to be made for Ty.
"Wow." I said. Then I snapped back to reality. "No. We have to go."
"What if these dudes took Mom?" Ty asked.
"Uugh!" I said.
"Shhhhh!" Ty said as he pulled me in his room and he shut the door.
"We have to stay here for at least a few days. We need to do what these dudes want us to." Ty said.
My mouth dropped open.
"Are you for real?" I asked. Ty nodded.
"I will not stand here and let these guards do what they want! I was assaulted for Christ's sake!" I said.
Ty's face softened and he apologized.
"But we still need to stay here for a few days. Just to get these guys to know that we are on their side, even though we're not." Ty said in a hushed tone.
"Okay." I said. "Simple enough."
"Then, in about a week, we'll escape and run over the mountains. It'll probably kill us, but we have to find a way to escape without getting caught." Ty said.
"At night." I said, gesturing toward the dark window.
"Okay. And how will we cross the mountains?" Ty asked.
"I guess we can just hitch a ride." I said.
"Alright. Go back to your room before someone sees you!" Ty said, pulling me to the door.
"Goodnight." I said as I kissed his cheek and left.
I quickly ducked every shadow and I made it to my room without getting caught. Then I quietly shut the door and I walked into the closet to pick out pajamas. I slipped out of my gown and I picked up a nightgown and I put it on. As I picked up my gown that I had on before, I realized that it was the only physical memory that I had of the old kingdom. I shed a few tears thinking about it.
Stop. I thought. Only one week. Then you'll escape with Ty and everything will be okay.
I exited my closet and I climbed into the heart bed.
Tonight wasn't going to be easy. You see, I can't sleep if I'm far from where I'm used to.
