I couldn't sleep at all that night. The nightmares of the Execution Day still stuck in my brain like glue. It seemed so fresh, like a newly sliced off limb.

I woke up at dawn. The windows were gleaming with newly born light.

I honestly couldn't take the flashbacks, visions and nightmares anymore, so I got up and went to the balcony to watch the sunrise.

The air felt cold and wet on my skin. My feet were bare, and they made a squishing noise against the dew-covered stone floor of the balcony.

I inhaled a gulp of fresh air. The sun greeted me with a burst of rays. The sky looked orange and pink, and there were big puffy clouds everywhere.

I loved to greet the sky this way. It was beautiful at times. I looked down at the lawn. Gardeners already were mowing the grass and tending to the shrubs and bushes around the gate. Then, I turned to face the town.

I saw some tiny ant sized people outside working already. I saw a man in a straw hat rounding up some sheep. I spotted guards just outside the town pointing in directions that I didn't exactly know where they meant to point to.

I leaned on the wet railing.

Maybe being a princess in this gorgeous castle wouldn't be too bad...

"Hey."

I turned around and saw Ty standing behind me. He looked sleepy and he rubbed his eyes with his hands.

I smiled.

"Good morning!" I said cheerfully.

"Woah take it easy. It's too early to be happy." he said in between a smile. A ray of sunshine gleamed on his brown hair.

I couldn't help but laugh.

"You watch sunrises as well?" He said, coming over to stand next to me.

I nodded.

"I couldn't sleep." I replied.

"I saw you come out here through my window and I thought that something was wrong." Ty said.

He worried about me?

"I'm fine." I said.

"Is that your old town?" He said, gesturing to the town below us.

I nodded.

"Wow...and is that the execution stage?" He said, pointing to the stage.

I nodded again.

"It doesn't like a Hell hole, to be honest, but it certainly felt like one. I dreamed about it all night." I said.

Ty nodded as he listened to me.

"I can't imagine seeing my siblings die on a stage only because of stupid population issues." Ty said.

"Well, you're blindfolded, so you don't see the deaths. You only hear them and afterward all you can do is sob." I said. "It's horrible."

Then I explained the fact that my sister was supposed to die this year, but she pointed to me and saved herself. I also included the fact that I saw all the deaths and that I was spared, obviously.

Ty listened carefully. His eyes widened with each word I said. He seemed both horrified and interested. I'd never met a guy that was so into what I was saying.

"Well, Brynn, I'm glad you didn't die. Because if you would, who would I have to call beautiful?" Ty said, inching forward to me.

I smiled and turned back to look at the landscape. Behind the end of the town, there were large mountains with snow on the caps. The sun peered from behind them. Next to the town, there was a cute little lake with a bench next to it and a forest next to that. A person was swimming in the lake with a dog.
