At dinner time, Ty and I walked into the dining room together.
Everyone was seated and they watched us as we sat down in our assigned seats.
"This evening," mom began, "we are here to honor our newest princess, Princess Brynn!"
Everyone clapped and cheered. What was going on? Didn't we do this a few nights before?
"The castle is your home, sweetie." The queen said. She motioned for a servant to come in. Robert entered the room with a golden plaque in his hands.
"This golden plaque with your name engraved in it will be nailed to the table in front of your seat and you will be officially inducted!" The queen said. I gasped.
"Thank you!" I said, beaming as Robert nailed the plaque on the edge of the table in front of me. He finished his work and he bowed as he left.
I stared at my reflection in the gold rectangle.
Brynn McAlister.
That's what the beautiful script letters read.
"Do you like it?" Mom asked.
I looked at her and I nodded. I even stood up and I gave everyone around the table a hug. Even Ty, yet his hug was a few seconds longer than everyone else's.
Then I sat down. I looked around the table, only to notice that everyone had a plaque with their names on them. Ty had his golden rectangle slightly covered with his napkin, and his was also a bit scratched and aged.
"Eat up!" Iña said, walking in with a huge tray of veggies and fruits arranged in a pretty oval. Robert followed her out with the main course, a turkey with thick, warm gravy in it.
The servants placed some food on every person's plate, and when it was my turn to get my serving, I could almost taste the turkey- even before I ate it. I was hungry and I felt like I would devour the plate itself.
Ty dug into his turkey and he made slight slobbering sounds as he chewed. The queen gave him a menacing look which signaled him to stop making noises. I couldn't help but giggle. Ty shot me a look and then we ended up laughing together.
The queen gave us a warning look and then we stopped and continued to eat.
"Lovely weather we're having, isn't that right?" Lia chirped. I didn't notice her at the end of the table.
"Yes indeed!" The queen said, smiling.
I looked around the room. The chandelier above was glowing, ad the tiny crystals were glittering.
"How's the turkey?" Robert said as he re-entered the room. Everyone gave a thumbs up sign and a "mmmhmmm" as they shoveled more food into their mouths. Robert smiled and he turned back into the kitchen.
"Brynn is such a beautiful girl." one of the gardeners said (I forgot her name). She was staring at me with a grin on her face. The queen nodded in approval and she eyed me over.
"I love that dress on you." Another gardner piped up.
"Thank you." I said to that elderly lady who complemented me.
"They're right, you're gorgeous." Ty whispered to me. I felt the hairs on my neck stand up from the happiness that just overwhelmed me.
"Thank you, babe." I whispered back. Ty grinned and then he picked up a carrot piece and he bit into it.
It felt odd to call someone 'babe' or 'baby', yet if felt awesome to receive that title from someone else.
I scooped up the last slice of lettuce I had on my plate and I thanked everyone for dinner. Then I went up to my room.
Ty rushed after me. He grabbed my elbow and he pulled me closer to him. He gave me a bear hug and then we walked up to my room. I walked straight to the balcony and Ty made sure that the door wouldn't lock us out. Then we sat, hand in hand, watching the clouds move and the birds travel in a 'v' shape across the sky.
