Chapter 2
Libby
Over the first week back, George and I became closer and closer. No matter how many times I told myself it wasn't a good idea I couldn't stop being with him. Everyone was happy for me and hadn't seen me smile this much in months. Everyone apart from Kyle. It was going to take much more of an effort to get him on my side or to even talk to me properly. That would come in its own time and I'd made arrangements to meet him next weekend so we could talk alone.
My thoughts were interrupted but I wasn't disappointed.
"What're you thinking about?" he asked me, fiddling with a piece of my hair.
"This week."
he finished my sentence. "It's been good."
"Yeah." I nodded in agreement.
"Are you done? I'm itching to get out of here."
"Almost."
I finished writing my last two sentences and then packed away my things, following George out of the room.
It was the same as every other day of the week as we walked down the road holding hands like an old married couple. It was sweet in our own way and neither of us cared what people thought anymore.
"Get on my back."
"What?" I frowned.
"I'll give you a piggy back."
"I'd rather walk thanks." I laughed.
"C'mon Libby, don't be boring.' he moaned, a smile twitching on his lips.
"Make me."
"You shouldn't have said that."
George walked towards me and I screamed quickening my pace. When I heard his footsteps get faster I broke out into a sprint heading for the beach steps.
"I'll get you!" I heard him shout behind me.
I yelled, "never!"
I flew down the steps, impressed at how I was still on my feet. I'd spoken to soon.
The sand was much harder to run on and I felt my feet slip beneath me. I threw bag a few metres in front, not wanting to squash it and fell onto the sand laughing.
Obviously surprised at my abrupt stop, George tried to slow himself down and failed miserably, falling right on top on me.
When he had rolled off me and I could breathe again we lay on our backs laughing like children.
I watched Maddy and her 'disciples' scowl at me from the pier, smirking at their jealousy.
"I'm sorry for landing on you."
"It's OK. I'm flattered really. I mean you literally fell at my feet." I sat up, looking down on him.
Taken by surprise, his arms we soon around my waist and he pulled me down until my head was resting against his chest.
His warm breath tickled my ear as he whispered. "You're beautiful."
My breath was suddenly uneven and I wasn't the only one who had noticed.
"Has nobody ever said that before?" George asked me.
I Shook my head.
"That's hard to believe."
When it stayed silent for a little while longer George asked "What's the deal with you and Kyle?
I blinked. "What do you mean?"
