Libby

I'd known this day would eventually come. It was how quickly it came around that shocked me most. How was I going to get though this? It killed me to be away from Will for a couple of days, never mind years.

My bags were sat at the bottom of the stairs, waking patiently by the front door anticipating the cries that would shortly follow. . I heard the thud of Karlie's suitcase crashing as it hit every step on the way down. Neither of us smiled. We trudged into the kitchen to eat anything that would keep us going until we were through customs in the airport. I chugged down my pint of water and checked the messages on my phone for any outstanding goodbyes.

I heard a wail from outside the door. "Girls!" My mum ran to Karlie and I and pulled us into a bear hug, kissing us both. "I'm going to miss you both so much!"

"We'll miss you too mum."

Karlie nodded in agreement with me.

"Do you have everything? Passports? Money? Phones?"

"Check check check." I smiled with tears springing to my eyes.

"Don't be silly Libby, don't make your old mother cry." She wiped her eyes free of water.

We all laughed and she pulled us into one last embrace.

My brother and Dad were next to say goodbye. I kissed my little brother on the cheek. "Be good won't you?"

He giggled ,"I will."

I crouched down a little and whispered in his ear.

"Can you do me a huge favor?"

"Of course." He whispered back.

"Can you look after Will for me?

He nodded his head and grabbed my hand giving it a gentle squeeze. "I promise."

"Thanks little guy."

I jumped into my dads arms and shut my eyes tight remembering all of the memories we'd had since we'd moved here. He stroked my hair and then set me back to my feet. "Bye sweetie."

"Bye Dad, I'll see you soon."

I joined Karlie who was patiently stood by the door with both of our suitcases in tow.

I took a deep breath to prevent myself from crying."I'm going to miss this so much."

"Me too."Karlie sighed, hanging her arm around my shoulder to comfort us both.

We dragged our suitcases and hand luggage outside onto the drive. I struggled to lift the twenty kilo case into the boot, fortunately the weight was taken away from me by the taxi driver who stacked it on top on Karlie's.

"Thanks," I said giving the man a crooked smile."

I climbed into the back of the cab and buckled myself in, checking my phone again. That was it. We are about to leave and he's not coming to say goodbye.

"Karlie has Alex texted you?"

She shook her head and I knew she was holding back a waterfall building up inside her. How could they just let us walk away without a goodbye? Maybe they thought no goodbyes would be easier.

The taxi pulled away from my house, with my family stood on the doorstep waving, smiling and blowing kisses in our direction. I inhaled quickly and wrapped my arms around my stomach to numb the pain of leaving. I sat facing the window. It was a way of hiding my tears from Karlie but also to take in my last few memories of my home town I loved so much. There were hundreds of things that should be running through my mind, but nothing was important. Other than Will. How could he not bother to even send a text?
