Layla's mouth dried out as she gazed up at the towering white dog demon standing in front of her. There were simply no words to do him justice. Inutaisho was...incomparable.

Utterly terrifying.

Layla clutched her shaking hands to her chest feeling small and inconsequential beneath his looming form. A spec of sand in a rolling desert. A drop of water in the sea. An ember to his mighty wildfire. All that power barely leashed beneath the rippling muscles of his body.

His claws were lethal spears that dug deep furrows in the earth as he paced back and forth waiting for his opponent to descend, lips peeled back in a silent snarl. The ground shook with the force of his heavy steps, nearly sending Layla toppling to the ground again.

One eye rolled in her direction and she noticed amid the sea of red the iris was slate grey. Cringing and hating herself for it Layla searched for any glimmer, any trace of her sweet Inutaisho in the demon's intimidating gaze.

A fork tongue slipped out of the dog's mouth and flicked lazily over his teeth.

Layla's heart galloped at a frantic speed as she forced herself to hold very still. Mustering her courage she spoke, stuttering out his name. "In-Inu...taisho?"

Not acknowledging her, the dog spun around, ears perked forward.

The trees above the cliff groaned as whatever decimated the teashop made to descend toward them.

Inutaisho growled.

Uh-oh.

Things were about to get real fast.

The dog raised one enormous paw and pointed down the road, a clear direction for her to retreat.

Her pulse slowed as he jabbed his paw in the air insistently. Despite the shape-shift Inutaisho seemed entirely in control of his faculties. He wouldn't hurt her. With that thought much of her apprehension about his dog form bled away and she calmed down.

Layla nodded and darted off toward Sango, Miroku, Shippo, and Kilala who had taken refuge behind a cluster of boulders. In a battle she'd only be in Inutaisho's way and if she were honest with herself all she wanted to do is cower like a child under the bed then face whatever fucked up thing was coming her way next.

Layla crouched down with the group and watched the enemy finally make its appearance. It was difficult to describe the monster because she had never seen anything like it before.

Acres of leathery red skin robed the creature. It had eight arms and only two legs. All eight hands were tipped by claws like swords. Spikes jutted all over the thing's body. Two horns spiraled up from its gourd shaped head into a mane of shaggy black hair.

Miroku's mouth set in a firm line. "An incarnation of Naraku."

"How can you tell?" Sango asked, rising slightly from her crouch to grip her weapon.

"The demonic aura the incarnation is exuding matches that of Kagura, Kanna and his other creations." The monk's eyes narrowed. "But something is different about this one. We had best use caution. I'm sure there's some trap involved here."

Layla had no idea what they were talking about but figured it wasn't the time to ask questions. She kept her focus on the walking B Horror movie advertisement as it clambered down the cliff to attack Inuyasha and Inutaisho.

Kagome raised her bow and fired an arrow. "I got 'em." A pale purple light surrounded the arrowed intensified as it sped toward the monster's heart.

With a roar the creature knocked the arrow aside. It crashed into the cliff wall behind it. Stone splintered and broke free of the wall, tumbling down the hill toward the battle unfolding between the monster, Inuyasha, and Inutaisho.
