Chapter 19: Competitive

GIYUU POV

Shinobu picked #3 which means we will be against them. I couldn't help but smile, remembering that one time during PE class.

I glanced at her group and well, they were all, sorry for the lack of better term, small.

"Tomioka-san, wasn't Shinobu-sama used to be part of the volleyball team?" I looked at Inosuke wearily.
"Yes."
"Shouldn't it be better if you play this round?" Tanjiro said.
"And I don't think Zenitsu can play." I looked at Zenitsu and true enough, he was already smitten by the girls. I sighed. We were on the beach and we're playing beach volleyball so it's no wonder girls played in their bikinis and swimsuits and guys in their trunks. But this kid still can't control his mind.
"Okay." And then I smacked Zinetsu on the head.

I was shocked when Shinobu entered the court and so were the other students. Thankfully she decided to wear her shirt and shorts. Or I might end up like my student here. I glanced back at Zenitsu, who still was daydreaming.

Tengen as usual, howled in amusement.

"Don't get divorce after this, okay?" Sanemi teased.

I instinctively readied my legs and arms as I know Shinobu likes to surprise the other team with a quick serve. And as soon as the whistle blew, Shinobu did a jump serve. The others were not quick to react and they got the point. A smirk playing on her lips. She got another 3 service aces off her jump serves.

I called the others who were in the back line. "Pass the ball midline and position your entire body behind the ball."

A girl from my team was finally able to receive the ball, although a little bit shaky. Inosuke set it up high while shouting, 'the great mountain king got this'. This gave me enough time for my approach. I slammed it down the backline, in the middle of zone 1 & 6, totally forgetting that Shinobu was there. She was able to dig my spike but lost control of the ball at the last second due to its power and spin.

"Oooooh!" Sanemi shouted.
"Someone has a death wish." Obanai added.
Shinobu kept on smiling, but in her eyes I saw a glint of anger. I gulped.

The other team's floor defense was almost perfect thanks to Shinobu and Muichiro but they just can't seem to get a good spike. Shinobu was talking to Yuichiro and pointing her finger up. We got another point. The score now was 12-6.

It was my time to serve. I looked at Shinobu and decided to do a jump float serve. Just to be safe, I don't want to hit Shinobu again but I also don't want to look like I'm going easy.

Once I hit the ball, I heard Shinobu shout, "Mine!" The others gave her space as she matched the movement of the ball as it came over the net.

Just with her stance and how light her feet and arms were, I knew she was going to pass it well and she did towards Yuichiro. I felt proud of my wife and thought, that's how you receive a floater. I hope the students saw that.

"Nice receive." I muttered. My team looked at me unbelievingly.

Yuichiro quickly tossed the ball high. I was looking at the possible spikers but none of them were jumping, all of them were in awe of Shinobu. And then I saw her jump fast and high, Inosuke and Tanjiro who were supposed to be blocking were not able to follow her.

This gave her a clean spike but it also gave me a clear view of her. She was sweaty and red and with her mouth open like that, I can't help but remember how she looked last night on top of me.

Swooosh

A ball landed on my left. I looked back at Shinobu and she was staring at me, a small smile playing on her lips and with one eyebrow raised.
