SHINOBU POV

This would be the first time we would celebrate his birthday together in 9 years! And of course, I want it to be special. But not way too overboard, my husband, after all, doesn't like parties.

I left our home half an hour earlier than the usual time it would take me to go to school and drove carefully. By the time I got there, it was almost the end of class. Just a few minutes shy away from the bell to ring.

"It's nice to see you here!" The guard greeted me warmly. Apparently, Douma stabbed him that night and almost died if the medics didn't see him tied and bleeding in his post.

"It's great to see you doing well, too!" I beamed at him. He did his signature salute before gesturing to me to enter the school. I parked beside Giyuu's car. I was using Sanemi's car by the way as Giyuu put a GPS in all our cars. Kanae and her husband went to school this morning with Tengen.

I messaged our group chat, which didn't include Giyuu, that I was already at the lot. I slowly got out of the car and stretched a bit.

"Ah." That feels good.
"Dr. Shinobu!" I turned around and saw the female student I saved 2 months ago.
"Hi there!"
"Arigato gozaimasu! I was not able to thank you properly last time." She spoke rushly and bowed.
"I'm glad you're alright." I just smiled at her and patted her head. "Take care on your way home."

A lot of students were emerging from the building and staring at me. Some smiled when I caught their eyes while some looked down. Well, I can't blame them, the story of what happened probably spread like wildfire. I'm sure there are a bunch of different versions, too.

A group of girls by the foot of the stairs were gaping at me, at my belly actually, which looked like a balloon.

I touched my stomach and gave it a few rubs.

"Bestie! Why did you leave your car? I told you to wait for me!" Mitsuri hurriedly went to me and hugged me a little too tightly for my comfort.
"I'm okay." I rolled my eyes.
"Giyuu is overreacting, I told you my OB told me we're fine. Isn't that right, little Giyuu?" I crooned. Mitsuri looked like she was going to burst because of happiness and excitement. I gave her time to collect her wits.

"We should be going or he'll start to suspect." Sanemi said while he and Gyomei took out the cake and the food. I reached for the remaining food but Mitsuri beat me.
"Where is he, by the way?" I asked on the way to the faculty room.
"Oh, Tengen and Kanae are probably teasing the shit out of him in his room." I laughed quietly at the thought. Oh, my poor husband.

GIYUU POV

I looked at my clock and there was still 5 minutes before our class ended. Most of my students were already done with the quiz I gave them but I wanted to give a little more time for those who were struggling. I leaned back on my chair and sighed.

Even though the others pointed out that I looked less lively than I usually was, I still didn't want to admit that I was, in fact, sad today. All of my co-teachers greeted me with 'happy birthday'. A lot of students did so too, both present and alumni. Tanjiro and his friends even took their time to go here just to give me a gift. And Obanai sent a special salmon daikon for me for lunch.

But it was really my wife who I was waiting to remember my birthday.

It was not really a big deal. Really. It's not like I want to celebrate. But damn, I would be lying if I say it didn't sting. And well, she probably had a lot on her mind right now. And I shouldn't stress her about little things such as this.

I heard shuffling and laughing at the door and sighed again.

Tengen and Kanae were waiting outside my classroom for the last 10 minutes now. Didn't they have a class on their own? I wonder what they were planning this time.
