SHINOBU POV
I was at the hospital for almost 24 hours now. Kanae went home as my parents took over looking after me. I asked the whereabouts of my husband, but they too didn't tell me anything.
Mitsuri visited me during lunch. She tried so hard to be her usual self but I could see something was off. Her eyes were so puffy. I didn't bother to ask about Giyuu and the others as I knew if Kanae won't tell me, I'm sure she won't too.
It was Oyakata-sama who told me what happened to the others.
"Don't worry my child, they will be alright. I know your husband would want you to focus on yourself right now." He smiled his peaceful smile. I just nodded, afraid to speak any word.
"The police will be coming here to take your statement." And on cue, an officer knocked on the door. He went in before we could even answer.
"I'll take my leave now, Ko-Tomioka. Don't stress too much." He then left with his wife."Good afternoon, Mam, I hope you're doing better. I just have a few questions for you." I looked at the window and sighed.
"What was your relationship with Douma?"
I glared at the officer.
"Nothing." I said thickly.
"Douma claimed that you two are involved in a very intimate relationship. Your husband found out about it, that's why he beat him with his friends when he dropped you off at school."
"I thought you already secured a copy of the footage? Why do you still ask me this stupid question?"
"Mam-"
"He's lying!" I shouted. The beeping sounds from the monitor immediately took off.
"Mam, please calm down. I-"
"Let my husband and friends go! I want my husband here!" I screamed. There were nurses at the door.
"You want to know what happened?" My anger was bursting at the seams. One nurse was at my side, trying to calm me while another one was urging the officer to leave.
"He fucking assaulted me and a student! And then he killed my baby! That's what that monster did!" I screamed and sobbed at the same time.I saw the nurse inject something to my dextrose, probably to calm me down or sedate me.
As the drug took effect, I remembered another happy memory. The finals of the spring tournament. Giyuu was so proud of me back then.
There was loud cheering in the stadium. Our team was against the defending champion. It was already the 5th set, the score tied to 13. We were gathered around Hakuji-san listening to his instruction.
I looked up and was shocked to see Kanae and the others a few rows above the court. No! I never invited them to any game because I know how busy they were. And, well, I was a little bit shy. And now they're here! Of all the games! There was a loud buzz and we went back inside the court.
I looked at the other team. They were made of somewhat sinister and overly boastful and loud players, especially the girl with white hair with green tips. With a few exception, their team captain and setter, with jersey #4, Nakime and their rookie who didn't look like she fit in there. She had black shoulder length hair and dark sea green eyes. She was also small and fast like me. I pursed my lips at the thought.
The loud girl with jersey #6 served. I focused my attention on the ball, matching it since I was in the backline. I readied my arm to receive the ball but at the last second took a side step then raised my arms up. Just my luck, the ball missed the line by a hairline.
"Out!" I shouted together with the whistle of the referee.
Okay, one more score, you can do this Shinobu. I said to myself. I checked the other side and saw their #6 was glaring at me. I smirked. Mitsuri, our team captain, was giving us a sign. This was her last playing year so we all wanted to give the championship to her.
The small girl received my service with ease, Nakime jumped as if to set the ball but something seemed off and then she quickly dumped the ball to our court. Two of my teammates fell down to save it, luckily one of them did. Mitsuri and I looked at each other and nodded. I jumped fast, making sure I didn't step on the white tape. Mitsuri gave the ball to me fast and I was able to hit it without any blocker. I aimed at the corner, where there was no defender.
