What was meant to be one more drink turned into another and another and another until the sun had long set and the diner was beginning to close down.

The whole time Athena and Eyeball had been chatting about anything and everything. He confessed his real name was Richard and told her about his mum and dad. She'd in turn confessed about her own mother's passing and the pair felt a small bond begin to form, having both lost mothers.

She yawned and looked out the window.

"I really need to go now." She said laughing slightly. She'd been saying that same sentence for the past few hours.

He laughed and nodded. Standing up as she whacked down a wad of notes on the table. His eyes widened slightly as he nodded, impressed.

"Cops pay well aye?"

She laughed and nodded.

"They do say crime doesn't pay." She said smirking as he grinned back, offering her his hand.

She laughed again and shook her head, leading the way out. They walked in a comfortable silence along the streets. He kept trying to subtly look over at her, the way her dress just seemed to float down her body and her hair fell perfectly down her neck in a braid that was slowly coming undone.

"How are you feeling about tomorrow?" He asked quietly, unsure whether or not she wanted to talk about the anniversary of Denny's death.

She sighed and shrugged slightly, resting her hands in her jacket pockets.

"I don't honestly know. I still find it crazy that he's not actually here you know? Like my mind won't accept it."

He nodded slowly as he looked down, he had the same feeling when his mum died. Glancing up at her as she took her hands from her pocket and swung them by her sides.

Taking a deep breath he reached his hand out and gently took hers in his. She flinched slightly but let him entwine their fingers as they arms swung together.

"I don't date criminals." She mumbled, a smile on her face.

"And I still don't date cops." He laughed back slightly before holding their connected hands up.

"This is the comfort I said about earlier." He said dropping their hands and letting them swing together as they walked along.

She smiled as she felt his fingers gently rub against hers, his thumb grazing over hers.

"I like this comfort." She mumbled as a smile appeared on his face.

"Me too." He mumbled back, seeing the smile on hers.

The streets were mainly silent until they both stopped outside a small house hearing a crash from inside. Their heads snapped in the direction as Athena felt Eyeball's grip tighten on her hand.

"What?" She asked but it was too late.

He let go of her and took off running towards the door. Athena hot on his tail, pulled her gun from her jacket and nudged him aside as she booted the front door down and burst in, gun up.

"Police! Down on the-" her voice stopped as she realised what house this was.

Looking over she saw a tall, strong looking man who was clearly drunk as he wobbled side to side staring at her.

Chris was cowering in the corner of the room as his eyes widened at the sight of Athena standing there, Eyeball right behind her.

He watched as his dad started to come closer but Eyeball quickly rushed past her and lunged for his dad. Athena joined him and together they managed to get him down on the ground as she pinned him down as Eyeball rushed to his brother.

A small cut on Chris's cheek was already bleeding as he felt shock at seeing his brother worry.

"Knock him out already!" Eyeball shouted at her as he wiped the blood from Chris's cheek.

"Police brutality Richard!" She shouted back as Eyeball growled.

He quickly came to her side and brought his fist down ont0 his fathers face and the man stopped fighting her and lay unconscious on the floor.

Athena quickly let him go and rushed to Chris's side, holding his face in her hands.

"You're okay Chris, right?"

Chris nodded slowly, eyes wide and mouth slightly open at what he'd just seen. Suddenly he wasn't seeing his brother and Gordie's copper cousin. He saw a mum and dad. A real mum and dad.

His eyes looked between the two as they stood over him, making sure he was okay and that it was just a cut to the cheek. He now realised he wanted his dad to get locked up and he wanted Eyeball to claim guardianship over him and he wanted Athena there too.

Yeah Eyeball was his brother but he wanted a real mum and dad. He wanted a family.

"You're staying with me tonight Chris."

He finally snapped from his trance and looked up at her.

"I'll take you back and get that cleaned up." She said as she held his head softly and wiped another stream of blood coming from his cheek.

"You too Eyeball." She ordered as she slipped her hand in Chris's and began to lead him out the room.

Chris looked down at her hand holding his, she had called his brother Richard, she had broke the door down to get to him, she had held a gun to his dad, she had saved him.

He looked up at his brother who was walking alongside them, Chris being in the middle. He had lunged for his dad, he had knocked him unconscious, he had saved him.

Looking down he took a small deep breath as he reached his other hand out and took Eyeball's in his. He felt his brother flinch but allow Chris to hold it as they walked to the B&B.

"Gordie took Max and Jax back to his and your dad was gonna take them back to the B&B." He mumbled to her.

She nodded down at him and smiled, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. A small smile appeared on his face as he saw the shadows they were casting under the streetlights.

The people casting them was just two brothers and the copper that had saved them but he saw a boy with the two people who had guardianship over him.
