"Easy!"
They all jumped up as the front doors flung open and Jax came bounding in, pulling along Chris and the three other young boys.
Athena quickly wiped her eyes and ran round to them.
"What the hell are you all doing here?! I told you to stay at home! Where's Eyeball?!" She shouted as the four all skunk down slightly.
They'd stayed hidden outside the station perfectly fine. For 4 minutes. Jax had been tugging and yanking to run inside the entire time until Chris could hold him back no longer.
"Thena..." Chris started but was stopped by Athena.
"No Chris! When I tell you to stay at home for your own safety you listen!" She shouted again as she felt tears fill in her eyes.
The pain of having him taken away from her was coming out as anger and though she could see the pain and hurt in his face she couldn't stop herself.
"Seriously Chris I'm not joking when I say this stuff! You too Gordie! And you both!" She continued to shout at the boys.
"For gods sake Chris! I..." she paused as the first tear finally fell.
Her eyes stayed locked onto his guilt ridden face. He shuffled on his feet as he looked between her and the floor. Athena sighed as she turned to the Sheriff and McKenzie.
"I can't do it." She mumbled.
Quickly turning back she stepped closer to Chris and wrapped her arms around him. His arms went around her waist as she held him close, letting the tears fall.
The three other boys all stood confused and somewhat scared having been told off by Athena. They looked at McKenzie and the Sheriff, who just shook their heads as the Sheriff stepped closer.
"I'll take you three boys home. Athena." He started.
Athena turned to face him but kept a firm grip around Chris.
"We'll sort this..." he mumbled as his eyes drifted down to Chris. "I'll be over tonight to pick them up." The words came like daggers from his mouth as he felt like the Devil for speaking them.
She felt herself nod as Chris pulled away. "Pick what up?" He asked as he looked between the cops.
Athena just shook her head and wiped her eyes. "Nothing, where's Eyeball? I gotta talk to him."
Chris shrugged slightly. "He made a call after you left, I think it was to Ace but he had to leave as quickly as you did."
Athena nodded slowly as she gave Gordie a quick hug and apologised for snapping the way she had as the Sheriff led them all out, after they'd said bye to Chris.
"Need me to come over later Chambers?"
Athena turned to McKenzie as his eyes drifted down to Chris. She looked down at the boy, placing a hand on his cheek. Her eyes fell on both dogs, who were sat at her feet, staring up at her. she looked back up at McKenzie.
"No we'll be okay." She tried saying as a lump formed in her throat.
McKenzie nodded slowly. "Come get me if you need me." He said as she smiled weakly nodding.
"What's going on?" Chris asked as he felt Athena hold onto his hand and gently lead him out the station.
Both dogs jumped in the back of her car as Chris climbed in with them and buckled up.
"Athena what's going on?" He asked again.
She shook her head slightly as she buckled her front seat up and started the car. "We need to find Eyeball."
