By the time they arrived she leapt out the car, holding Max tightly. She watched as other officers stood behind their car doors, guns all raised.

Turning to the front door she pulled her gun out as she saw Chris and Gordie's crying faces staring at her. They were both held in place by the only man Athena wanted dead, his gun waving frantically as he was clearly drunk.

Athena heard shouting and swearing as she turned and saw Eyeball being held back by the cobras and a couple of other officers.

She looked down at Max, who was barking, howling, snarling and growling. His sights set on this man who was holding Chris and Gordie. He was ready to kill.

"Let the kids go Chambers!" Athena heard the Sheriff shout as he slowly stepped forward, keeping his gun locked and loaded.

"DON'T FUCKING ACT LIKE YOU DON'T WANT THEM GONE TOO!" He shouted in response as he shoved his gun in Gordie's face.

The fear and terror evident in his face as he cried his heart out, feeling the cold metal against his head.

"He's not even your son Chambers. Let the Lachance kid go and we can talk." Her boss shouted calmly as he stood at the end of the pavement.

"HE AIN'T EVEN A KID IN HIS OWN FUCKING FAMILY!" The gun pressed harder against Gordie's head.

"He still has family who love him." The Sheriff replied, glancing at Athena who showed nothing but fury, her gun aimed straight at his head.

"I'M DOING THEM A FUCKING FAVOUR! YOU'RE FUCKING WELCOME! ONE DOWN, ONE TO GO!" He shouted again.

Athena couldn't help herself. No-one talked about Denny like that. She stepped forward, ready to fire and let Max finally go as he boss held his hand up to his side, stopping her. She glared at him but he shook his head slightly as he turned back to crying boys being held.

"We can still talk about this Chambers. All you gotta do is let the kids go and we can talk about this." He shouted calmly.

"I AIN'T FUCKING TALKING!" He shouted as they all saw his thumb click the gun, loading it as it clicked.

He moved it and held it against Chris's head.

"HE'S MY FUCKING SON SO I CAN FUCKING KILL HIM IF I WANT!"

Athena's blood boiled.

Glancing down at her boss's hand she saw the thumbs up.

Go time.

"He's not your son." She shouted angrily, "he's mine." She snapped.

Her gun lowered as she pulled the trigger. The bullet flew straight into his leg as Max was let loose.

He flew into action and leapt on top of the man, who had now fallen, clutching his leg.

Chris and Gordie sprinted straight to Athena as she wrapped her arms around both of them and clutched them close to her.

Tears finally fell from her face as she held the boys close, gripping their shirts tight. No air was between the boys and her as they clung to her and each other.

Athena looked up and saw a few other officers rush over to Max's side and quickly cuff the Chambers dad.

She turned slightly as she felt two more arms wrap around her and the boys. Looking up she saw Eyeball's worried face as he frantically tried to make sure they were all okay.

Chris let go off Athena and clung to his older  brother as Gordie refused to let her go. Ace and the other cobras all came rushing over after Eyeball and wanted to check she was okay.

Athena held Gordie closer than she ever thought she could as she looked up slowly. Her Sheriff was watching the reunion and noticed Eyeball's arm refusing to let her go.

The pair shared a silent look. His earlier question was now answered. There was a romantic relationship between his new officer and the criminal known as Eyeball Chambers.

Athena gulped slightly as he came closer, watching Chris and Eyeball's dad get carried away to a patrol car.

"Officer Lachance." He said in his stern voice as she looked up at him, scared of what was coming next.

"Sir." She mumbled as her grip on Gordie tightened.

"I want a full report on my desk tomorrow by 10am. And I want it to be full." He said knowingly at her, he wanted to know everything about her and Eyeball.

She nodded slowly as her eyes drifted down to Chris, still clinging to his older brother. She looked back at the Sheriff.

""I'm sure you'll be capable of that while finding a temporary home for Master Chambers here?" He asked as his eyes drifted to Chris before back at her.

She nodded solemnly as McKenzie soon appeared and wrapped his arms around her and Gordie, checking the young boy was okay.

"Till tomorrow morning then." The Sheriff stated as he nodded before turning and walking off.

Athena watched as McKenzie checked over Chris, who finally let go off Eyeball and let himself get checked over.

Eyeball stepped towards Athena as she felt Gordie's tight grip around her.

"I'm sorry." He mumbled.

"Me too." She replied, looking away and down at Chris.

"Get your stuff Chris." She started as she gently kept an arm around Gordie and pulled Chris closer with the other.

"Where do I go?" He mumbled as he wrapped an arm around her waist and allowed her to guide him and Gordie back up to the house.

"Home." She replied as McKenzie stood with the cobras and watched.

"I've fucked her career haven't I?" Eyeball asked quietly as the door shut behind them and be assumed Chris was packing to go be with her.

McKenzie sighed slightly and shrugged. "Can't lie and say it's all going to be okay Chambers. Rules are pretty clear about cops and criminals."

Eyeball sighed as he felt Ace's hand on his shoulder.

"Chris will be safe though, that's the main thing right?" McKenzie offered up, trying to make him feel better.

Eyeball nodded. If he had to lose her to keep Chris safe he would. Even though he was trying to go straight people would still see him as Eyeball Chambers.

"She'll be fine Richard."

He turned and saw McKenzie smiling weakly at him.

"I got her back." He said as he offered a hand out to second in command of the cobras.

Eyeball looked down at it before back up at him.

"She called him her son..." Eyeball muttered as he reached his hand out.

The pair gently shook hands as the smile grew on McKenzie's face.

"Don't ever come between a copper mum and her son." He said with a laugh.
