There was an awkward silence in the Lachance house as Athena stood holding Gordie's hand in his smartest suit. His parents had pretty much ignored him, as expected but Athena and her dad had both greeted him with a hug as Athena promised herself she wouldn't let Gordie go. He needed her just as she needed him.

Her aunt handed them both a bunch of flowers before eventually everyone set off walking towards the graveyard. Max and Jax walking either side of the cousins, their tails hung as they could tell Athena and Gordie were upset.

"Are you okay?" Athena whispered down at him as she gave his hand a gentle squeeze.

Gordie nodded slowly as he kept his gaze down at the floor. Athena gently nudged him.

"You got me now remember? I'm not going anywhere."

He looked up at her with tear filled eyes and nodded slowly again. Athena quickly let his hand go and wrapped her arm around him, holding him close as they walked side by side.

They all soon arrived at the graveyard where a few of the other townspeople had also gathered to lay flowers and pay their respects on this anniversary. Denny was a massively loved person in their little town and everyone was feeling the loss.

Athena kept her arm around Gordie as they both lay their flowers down on the grave and stepped back. The moment they were out of the way Gordie turned and instantly wrapped both arms around her, she felt his little body begin to shake as he cried into her. This only made her hold him tighter, gently brushing his hair with her hand. She bit her bottom lip as she tried to stop the tears from falling but it didn't work.

She felt a hand on her back and turned to see her dad with a sorry expression. She pulled away slightly as he opened his arms out for Gordie, who flung himself into his uncles arms. He loved that he still had family who believed in him and Athena and her dad were always top of that list now Denny wasn't around.

Athena took another deep breath as she wiped her cheeks, watching Gordie cling to her father. She paused and looked around. People were trying to stop themselves from crying as her eyes fell on two figures standing over at another grave she recognised.

Eyeball and Chris were standing by the same grave Eyeball had stopped at the first time she'd been here. Eyeball caught her eye and gave her a weak smile as Chris crouched down and started talking to the headstone. She smiled weakly back at him. He was right, he would be there but not there.

"Athena? Athena Lachance?"

Her gaze on Eyeball was broken when she heard someone speak her name. Turning around she couldn't stop the smile from appearing on her face.

"Danny?" She asked shocked.

A smile appeared on his face as he nodded and she couldn't stop herself from flinging herself at him, his arms wrapped around her waist as he spun her around. Gently placing her down they pulled away slightly.

"But. But what are you doing here?" She asked him confused. " I haven't seen you since we left the academy?"

Danny smiled down at her and gestured to himself, he was wearing a policeman's uniform.

"After we graduated and you decided to say no to my proposal, me and mum packed our bags and moved over here."

Athena looked down slightly as she remembered. Danny had been her first proper love, they'd met while both training to be officers and he proposed the night they began full officers. She'd turned him down claiming she wasn't ready and they were too young. They'd argued and broken up two days later.

"Sorry.." she mumbled into him.

He shrugged and shook it off, smiling down at her. "Forget it Blue. I knew I'd see you again anyhow, first day on the job I was in charge of finalising paperwork from a jeep crash." He mumbled as his eyes drifted down to Denny's grave before back at her. "I'm sorry."
