Monday, Wednesday, and Friday I had English and that meant seeing him more and more. I just admired from a distance. Like a sculpture in a gallery, I didn't dare go near, afraid of being embarrassed by making the wrong move. We were dismissed from class and as usual I watched him walk down the hallway.

"He's never going to notice you if you don't say anything."

I was snapped out of my trance when I heard the comment. I turned to the left and saw the skinny girl from the first day of class staring dead at me.

"Excuse me?"

"You heard what I said. I see the way you look at him."

"You don't know anything, you don't even know me!"

I half-way laughed through my statement.

"Well my name is Keyanna. Daniella."

"How do you know my name?"

"Um I've been sitting next to you for like 2 weeks now."

She said popping her gum. Keyanna was around 5 foot 5 and tiny. She was chocolate skin with big eyes and long black hair. She was what most guys would die for and part of my reasoning for not liking her was probably envy, I only wished to look as good as she did. I looked at her like she was crazy, I wasn't used to making friends.

"Where's your next class?"

She said shuffling through her purse looking for her schedule.

"I have a break, I was going to the library."

"Cool, I have some homework to do."

Did she just invite herself? I asked myself looking at her up and down. But deep down, I didn't really mind.

"So Daniella, why don't you ever say anything?"

"Say anything about what?"

"To the guy in our class!"

"Please! For what?"

"What do you mean for what? I KNOW you want him, and I don't blame you as fine as he is."

I had to laugh at Key grabbing her heart and stopping in mid stride.

"I am sure he's far from worried about me."

"Please, tell me you're not one of those."

"One of what?"

"Low self esteem girls."

"You cool and all, but we just started speaking, I don't think my personal feelings are any of-

She sucked her teeth and rolled her eyes cutting me off.

"Girl please, yes it is."

This Keyanna girl really had guts.

"Tomorrow you are going to ask him his name, and chit chat about class."

"NO! I'm not."

"Yes you are!"

"Keyanna, no I'm not."

"Daniella, yes you are!"

We argued back and forth the whole walk until we found a table in the library.

"What's the worst that could happen?"

She asked looking at herself in her pocket mirror.

"He could say no, or something worse."

"Soooooooooooooooooooo what! It's his loss. On to the next one!"

She said dancing and mimicking Jay-Z's new song.

"Easier for you to say than me."

"Why?"

"Look at you!"

"Girl please! Just because you're a little chunkier than me don't mean nothing. Times have changed, I know A LOT of guys who want themselves a big girl!"

I raised my eyebrow and opened my book bag to get my textbook. We didn't do any studying. Mostly talked about everything for the next hour and a half. We parted ways to go to our next class and exchanged numbers. That afternoon I still had my head stuck in Invisible Man when my cell phone rang. I saw Keyanna's number pop up.

"Hello?"

"DanI, what you doin?"

"Reading."

"What?"

"Our book for English."

"Oh you trippin that ain't due for like 2 weeks."

"Yeah but I'd rather hurry up and get done."

"Over-achiever type. Okay."

"I'm tired of you saying I'm all these types of things."

"Whatever, girl. So I'm at school still and some dude just handed me a flyer for this party, this weekend. You want to go?"

"Um, I don't do parties."

"Why NOT! We're in COLLEGE! That's what we do baby!"

"Not me."

"Oh my gosh, whatever. Tomorrow you work or something like that?"

"Yeah but not tomorrow."

"Well we're going to the mall to get something to go to this party."

"Key, I'm not going"

"Whatever yes you are, your parents be trippin about company?"

"No why?"

"Well umma just stay at ya crib then the night we go because my moms be trippin about comin in late."

"You are quite the pushy one aren't you?"

"You ain't stopped me yet."

She did have a point. Part of me was happy that I had Key around now.

"Key I really don't wanna go."

"He handed ya boo a flyer too."

"Who is my boo?"

"Don't even front, but here come the bus I gotta go text me later."

"Keyanna don't hang up this-"
