Amelia's P.O.V
My mom started to play with her hair which she tends to do that when she is nervous. I felt her eyes avoiding mine. I clutch on to the lawyer's paperwork.
"I've been trying to get sober, honey. " She said and I sighed.
I agreed to meet with my dad after last seeing him walk out on my mom and I. During the divorce, I refused to see him since I was angry at him for finding a new life without me.
I had an appeal form in my hand stating that we are financially stable to maintain ownership of the house. I knew it was a lie on behalf of my mom. I have a great source of income, Zachary.
My mom signed the papers where the lawyer told me she had to sign. I neatly tucked them away in a folder and stood up to leave. My mom reached for my hand which I hesitated to hold onto. However, I know she was trying her best so I gave it a small squeeze.
"Amelia, I think about you a lot and what I did" She said with an uneasy tone. "You did not deserve any of it. I hope to see you..." She trailed off as the words of when was the right time.
"Maybe next month" I said with a shaky voice dropping her hand. She nodded and I turned around to exit the visitors' room.

A wave of bitter sweetness hits me. I swallowed my pride walking in when my dad opened the door for me. He welcomed me to his new home.
"I'm only here because I need you to sign some paperwork. You know for the family you've abandoned and stole from" I said with no emotion in my tone. He looks astonished to my bluntness and cleared his throat.
"I will go fix you some tea and I can read the documents" He said quietly clearing his throat.
A toddler waddled over to me holding up a stuff animal to me. It made me start to think about when my parents were together.
My dad traveling and my mom chose to go with him. They left me with a nanny which I hated. My home started to feel lonely, dark and miserable. I couldn't feeling alone so I was always at Theo's house.
"So, you met your brother, Jace" My dad said setting the tea, sugar and milk in between us. I place the tea cup in front of me and looked at Jace.
After he made his cup of tea, I handed him the paperwork for him to review. We sat quietly with only the sounds of Jace filling the room. Playing with the stuffed animal. My dad sighed when he saw the history of late payments being made. I had so many things I wanted to say to him because I was mad at him.
"Why didn't you take me when you left mom? " I asked and he raised his head to look at me. The pain in my chest started to expand.
I knew my mom was a recovering acholic, but she didn't deserve her money to be stolen. To be a single mother and now have her home be taken away.
"The divorce was hard enough on your mom. She begged me to let you stay with her" He said closing his eyes in pain for a brief moment. "I thought she would've changed and stayed sober." He said quietly making tears form on the rim of my eyes. I blinked them away.
"Well, she didn't and I sent her back to rehab. " I said bluntly making him flinch. "Dad," I said with my voice not meaning to crack. I felt the wave of bitterness swirled into my exhaustion trying to make everything work. "Mom tried to kill herself to an overdose in June. She won't get better." I said feeling tears slip out of my eyes. My dad looks like he was pondering what exactly to say.
"My dear " He said making my heart drop. "I'm sorry, I left your mom voicemails trying to contact her. I wish I have known." He said. Tears flowing even more. I gulped some tea trying to soothe the pain in chest.
"You were gone." I said letting out a cry making him get out of his chair and come closer to me. Cautiously putting his arm around me and I leaned into his arms. I was tired and couldn't handle fighting anymore.
"I'm sorry, Amelia. I will do better. I want to do better. " He said leaning his head on my shoulder.
I agreed to whatever my father planned out, if it meant no more bills to pay. That means I don't need Zachary in my life anymore.
A wave of relief washed over me. I needed to come clean to Theodore, now. I need to see him and explain everything. I can't keep hiding how I feel about him.
I left my dad's house after I finished my tea. I speeded through the streets, catching all the green lights with an empty road. I stopped the car at a red light grabbing my phone but then dropped it when I heard my car doors open.
"Who the fuck are you?" I asked looking at the dark hair guy through my rear view mirror.
I grabbed my phone again in a rush to call the cops but he slammed my head against the steering wheel. A cry of pain ripped out of my throat feeling tension in my head. I started to freak out to the sight of my own blood running down my face. I screamed trying to open my car door but my mouth got covered from the guy's hand. His arms wrapped around me weighing me back down in the leather seat.
Tears started to flow out of my eyes making everything blurry. My body was shaking in his arms while my hands couldn't grasp anything to hit him with. My heart was racing in the moment of time believing I deserved this at the end of the day.
I bite down on his fingers making him slap me feeling a stinging sensation on my cheek. I felt something tight against my throat gasping hitting my head back on my seat.
Panicking making it harder to breath. The streets were empty, dark, and quiet. My screams sounded more like a wheezing sounds, burning my fingers in between the rope trying to pull it. I felt the rope burning my finger tips as I did made it worse. I rested my head and closed my eyes feeling defeated. This was my karma of betraying someone that I love. I deserve this thinking my parents were monsters, but I became worse.
I heard a loud ringing sound in my ear with the rope falling loose around my neck. I sucked in for air and started to cough holding my throat. My scream felt lost as I turned around to the sight of blood splattered everywhere.
My body felt wobbly, gripping his shoulders with my hands. I cried into his arms not caring about the blood I was getting on him.
"We need to drive her to the hospital." I heard Zachary and I mumbled confusion.
