14th October 1976Sirius was strolling around his dorm room. It had been just over a week since the party in the common room, and he had been approached by boys who said things like they "don't blame him" or "Devereux is sexy if I was as close as you were, I'd have a hard-on too," as well as random girls who gave him and Laurie dirty looks as if they were jealous.
He was irritated by it more than he'd want to admit. Laurie, on the other hand, would brush it off whenever it was brought up, saying things like "it didn't matter, we were drunk."
Their friends had been unrelenting in their teasing of the raven-haired lad. James, on the other hand, had been more restrained in the mockery of his best friend.
After all, they were in the same boat. James felt bad for Sirius. The two brothers were deeply infatuated with someone who did not return their feelings.
That's why James was sitting in his bed, happily listening to Sirius' babbling. As Sirius had done for James many times before.
"I'm really embarrassed, and she's totally unconcerned about the whole situation." Sirius sighed as he took the last two of the four pillars that supported James' bed.
"Perhaps she is embarrassed, but she's just good at hiding it," James shrugged.
"But, I don't want her to be embarrassed prongs!" Sirius made a hissing sound.
"If that's the case, why did you say-" James began, but was cut short.
"What if I tell her how I feel?"
James' eyes went wide and his jaw dropped "you're serious!?"
Sirius choked on his laugh "Actually, I'm always Sirius" he smirked.
"Mate will you be serious," said James flatly.
"I alread-"
"Sirius!!"
"Do you think that I should?" he asked sincerely.
"Padfoot, I think that if you honestly like her as much as you say you do then, of course, you should tell her. But just know that she has been my sister a lot longer than I've known you so if you fuck it up then I'll have no choice but to murder you" James said with no hint of joking tone in his voice.
"I have nothing to fuck up! I don't even know if she likes me"
"She likes you mate don't worry about that. But afternoon classes start in like twenty minutes and we haven't even had lunch yet so we should probably go"
"I'll ask her to meet me after class so we can talk," said Sirius.
The two boys got up and went to the great hall to have their lunch.

Laurie sat next to her partner Marlene in potion class. Sirius was sitting two tables behind her with James, and for the previous fifteen minutes, he had been struggling to get the brunette girl's attention.
Professor Slughorn stood at the front of the classroom, describing the differences between antidotes for common and uncommon poisons.
Sirius exclaimed, "Shit!" in hushed tones.
"What!?" James replies with a whisper.
"I can't seem to get the note to hit her. Sirius explains, "It just keeps dropping to the floor."
"Here, give me a shot." James was given the folded piece of paper by Sirius so that he could throw it towards Laurie.
James, unsurprisingly, caught the girl in the back of the head on the first attempt.
Laurie felt a small object strike her in the head, and she looked around her before looking down on the floor, where she discovered about eight or nine folded up pieces of parchment.
She leaned in to take one and read it.
At 6 p.m., meet me at the astronomy tower? I want to speak with you.
-S.BShe caught Sirius's eye as she peered behind her. She gave a small smile before nodding and turning around in her chair.
"What does that say?" Marlene asked.
Laurie handed the paper to Marlene for her to read.
"Oh, Merlin!" exclaims Marlene. Do you have any idea what this means, Laurie? " Marlene gasped excitedly.
"What?" Laurie said cluelessly.
"God! You really have no clue! Sirius is going to kiss you on the astronomy tower tonight! "
"No, he's not... Do you actually think he will?"
"Why? You don't like him, do you? " Marlene smirked.
"No! I-I don't think I do" the brunette stuttered.
"You totally do"
Laurie hadn't considered it. Sirius had been her friend since she was eleven years old. Sure, Sirius was stunning, and she wished she could just run her hands through his hair or gaze into his beautiful eyes or how she would unconsciously sit in a certain position just to be able to touch him, and... Oh, Merlin!
What if she did like Sirius? What about Danny? Would it ruin her friendship with him if he did kiss her? What if he didn't want to kiss her tonight?
She had so many questions.
It hadn't been the first time someone insinuated that she and Sirius would be nice together but it was the first time she had looked at the facts.
Laurie liked Sirius.
Or did she.
It felt wrong to admit that in her head but she would never admit that out loud. She had promised Danny she would talk to him at Christmas and she was sure that she still liked Danny. She hadn't seen him since summer but she had seen Sirius every day since then.
So Laurie wondered if she did like Sirius the way she thought she did. Or that maybe she made that up in her head on accident just because he was around.
"Ms Devereux! Can your attention be brought back to the room, please? Or am I disturbing important thoughts?" professor Slughorn called on her.
"No professor, nothing important"
"Perfect! So you should be able to tell me three of the ingredients of antidote to common poisons"
"Uh... Bezoar, Mistletoe Berries, and Unicorn Horns"
"Very good! Five points to Gryffindor"
The bell went and all of the students began to gather their stuff. Just as people were about to leave Slughorn shouted.
"On Monday I will be changing your partners for a very important project that will make up the marks for thirty per cent of your final N.E.W.T.S grade"
