13 - Say Yes

"Oh, James!" Laurie let out while rushing over to his bed in the hospital wing.

James and Marlene's eyes went wide as they watched Laurie and Sirius enter the wing.

"Wha-what are you doing here?" the bespectacled boy choked out.

"Peter told us you had a terrible accident while you were playing Quidditch and we had to see if you were ok" she explained.

"I'm fine!" he held his hands out in panic "go back, I don't want you here"

"James," Laurie laughed nervously at his response.

"You're not supposed to be here, go back to where you were, please!" he begged.

"No" the girl asserted.

"Laurie!"

"James! Did you hit your head or something because you're acting strange" she said while putting her hand on his head.

"I'm fine. I promise I only fell like ten feet from the air, that bearly a person" he said while seating her hand away.

"James that's like two people on top of each other"

James laughed at the thought and Laurie glared at him.

He sighed dramatically "Peter! Sirius, I would like a word with you both... In private. Remus, you are welcome too"

With that, Laurie rolled her eyes but walked out of the hospital wing with Marlene.

"Did you do it?" James asked Sirius excitedly.

"No. Because that fucking toss ruined it" Sirius huffed and pointed at Peter.

"Peter!" James and Remus shouted at the same time.

"I didn't know!" Peter argued "nobody told me"

"Nobody told Remus either but he didn't go butting in. What is wrong with you!?" James said.

"What is wrong with him, what's wrong with you!?" Sirius complained to James.

"Me?" James scoffed "Remus! Say something"

"Yes, you! If you hadn't fallen off your bloody broom he wouldn't have to go and get somebody"

"I agree with him prongs, you're both idiots," remus said.

"You didn't even tell her?" James said as his voice softened. He was disappointed that his friends hadn't come together the way he believed they were supposed to.

"I was about to kiss her! Then he came up"

"Fuck sake"

"I'm sorry pads" Peter apologised.

"Just be quiet Pete" Sirius sighed.

"You were up there for like ten minutes, what did you even talk about?" asked James.

"Just stuff" the raven-haired boy shrugged.

Suddenly the doors of the hospital wing opened with a loud noise and Lily Evans came running over to James' bed, brushing past the two boys. Laurie and Marlene followed behind.

"Are you alright?" she said frantically.

"Why? Care about me now Evans" James flirted.

"Potter!"

"I'm ok. Poppy said I'll have this bandage on my nose till after Halloween. You still think I'm good-looking, don't you?"

"I suppose," she said as she shied away from the boy.

"Course he starts to get the girl" Sirius mumbled to himself.

"C'mon Marls, let's go back to the dorm, leave the love birds to it" said Laurie.

"Okay"

"Did he kiss you? Please tell me he kissed you and that's why you were in the hospital wing so early" Marlene begged.

"He didn't" she sighed and fell on her bed.

"What!?"

"Maybe it's better that he didn't you know. That way I can figure out my feelings"

"Are you upset that he didn't?"

"A little bit"

"Really? He didn't even try?" Marlene was completely shocked. She was sure that Sirius and her best friend would kiss and get married and have babies. The whole lot.

Marlene was one of the many people that thought Laurie and Sirius just made sense.

"He didn't even try" Laurie confirmed.

"What did you talk about?"

"About me finding my dad. It was like the least kissable conversation ever!"

"I can't believe him!" Marlene scoffed.

"It's all your fault!"

"My fault!?" Marlene squeaked.

"Yes! If you hadn't filled my head with all of your crap then I wouldn't have thought that much into it therefore I wouldn't have been disappointed" Laurie explained to her friend.

Then the little pink phone on Laurie's bedside locker began to ring. Both girls stopped squabbling and looked at the phone.

"Get it," said Marlene.

"You get it"

"It's your phone"

"You bought it"

"It's going to ring out"

"Maybe we should let it"

"We shouldn't"

"Fine"

Laurie picked up the receiver of the phone and held it up to her ear "hello?"

"Hey, it's Danny"

Laurie pulled the phone away from her ear and whisper shouted to Marlene "it's Danny!"

"You sure?"

Laurie just rolled her eyes at the girl and put the phone back up to her ear.

"Laurie are you still there?"

"Yeah, I'm here"

"Good, I was wondering if there was any way that I could see you before Christmas"

"I don't know, I suppose I could ask Dumbl- the headmaster if I could flo- get the train home for the weekend. why?"

"I think that we should go on a proper date, you know only if you want to"

She pulled the phone away again and whispers to Marlene again "he wants to go on a date"

"Say yes"

"Alright, yes," she said to Danny before she could even think about what she said.

"This weekend?"

"Ok, I'll see you then" Laurie had wide eyes.

"Great! I'll meet you at your house at 5 o'clock on Saturday"

"Sound good" she was panicking on the inside.

"Bye"

And she hung up the phone.

"I'm going to kill you!" and she jumped on Marlene.
