They say we're young and we don't know.
We won't find out until we grow.
Well, I don't know if all that's true.
'Cause, you got me, and baby, I got you.

I got you, babe, I got you, babe.

They say our love won't pay the rent.
Before it's earned, our money's all been spent.
I guess that's so, we don't have a pot.
But at least I'm sure of all the things we got.

"I got you, babe. I got you, babe." Laurie sang. She was sitting at her vanity on her red stool.

It was dark now in comparison to the early morning when her mother told her all about her father. Laurie would say that it was all settled in her head.

She wasn't sad or felt in a state of tragedy or even particularly stressed, she was more curious. She wanted to tell Evan but wasn't sure if she should. Would he hate her because of it? Even if he didn't, it would change the whole dynamic of the friendship. Evan already acted like an older brother (Though Laurie was older) she found that part funny. She was Evan's older sister.

Brushing her hair and getting ready to go nowhere is what she had spent her day doing. After trying on every piece of clothing in her wardrobe she had ended up with her yellow silk pyjamas that had yellow feathers on the ends. As well as the necklace Sirius gave her on Christmas.

Laurie didn't hear her bedroom door open and close again. "Then put your little hand in min-"

"Good afternoon." Sirius interrupted her singing and she swirled fast around on her stool.

"Merlin's sake! Sirius, you can just barge in on unsuspecting victims. And it's nighttime so say good night." she turned off the music while he lay on her bed.

"Sorry," he said sheepishly.

"You're fine." she moved from the stool to sit on the edge of the bed beside him. "Did you have fun at James' house?"

"It was alright. I thought I should give you and your mum space to talk."

"Very nice of you but you ditched me for James." Laurie hit him in the stomach which caused him to groan.

"Fuck, I didn't ditch you. Like I said, space." he laughed slightly. "Did it go well with your mum?"

"It was ok. I'm a Rosier."

"What?" Sirius choked on the air that enters his lungs. "A Rosier!"

"Laurie Rosier. Better than being a Burke," she recalled the night Sirius told her that he'd have to stop talking to her if she was a burke. On the Astronomy tower.

"I suppose so."

"It means I'm Evan's sister. But I have no clue whether to tell him or not. Mother said I shouldn't but I can't lie to him. He's one of my closest friends. It's kind of cool that we're brother and sister, isn't it? And-"

Laurie's rambling was cut off when Sirius leaned up and touched his lips to hers gently. Only for a moment then he pulled back.

He couldn't help himself this time. She looked so beautiful and oddly passionate talking about her newfound heritage.

She was shocked, to say the least. After so long she never thought he would make a move on her.

"Is that a polite way to tell me to shut up." she smiled.

"You have no idea how long I have wanted to do that."

"Then do it again." Laurie dared.

Sirius leaned up and placed his hands on her jaw and slowly connected their lips once more. It was unlike any kisses either of them had before. They had only experienced the kind of kissing that leads to mindless shags. This kiss felt like it meant something. All the others had been fast in pace and eager. This was slow and intimate.

Laurie wrapped her arms around his neck and let his tongue into her mouth. She leaned forward so he was on his back and she was on her stomach beside him. They pulled back.

"Wow, your mother is only gone a couple of hours and the funny business has started." Sirius joked.

"Shut up."

"That wasn't very polite, considering how polite I was."

"You were very polite."

"I am a gentleman." Sirius stared at her, stroking her hair behind her ears. Completely mesmerised by the girl in front of him. The girl he thought he would never have. The girl he still didn't have, not officially.

"This changes everything between us, doesn't it?" Laurie whispered, desperate to keep the intimacy of the moment.

"Not if we don't let it. Me and you, nothing can get rid of that friendship. Even if this" he pointed between the two "goes horribly wrong."

"I think I've liked you a long while but I've never had the guts to tell you." Laurie smiled at him.

"I've liked you since third year. Talk about no guts." She laughed at him.

"Third year?!"

"I know."

"I only realized when you brought me up to the astronomy tower and I was upset that you never kissed me."

"I was supposed to!" he defended "stupid James and Peter ruined everything."

"If you say so."

"Hey! It's true. It's late we should get some sleep." he said looking at the clock on her bedside table.

"Stay here." she pleaded "mum will never know."

"Alright but you have to give me a kiss for my troubles."

She laughed and pushed their noses together, joining their lips, feeling his soft ones on hers lighting up a roaring fire running through their veins. How could he have been in front of her all along and she didn't even notice?

He reached over, not breaking the kiss and turned off the lamp on her locker.

Relief washed over them both when they eventually fell asleep, wrapped in each other arms. This was how they wanted it for so long. Everything about it felt so right.
