The rain kept up through the next day. At the very least it made the monsters of the area seek shelter as well, but at the same time it also made it harder to find wolves. Not that Conner couldn't, he was surprisingly good at finding where they hid and luring them out, even in the heavy rain. In fact, because he already knew how to track large game like wolves, the rain helped considering he knew right where they would hide. And he found them not a moment too soon.

By the time they'd had another three wolves hooked up to the harness and were on their way back to Elfheim, the storm was letting up. It wasn't long before they were also back traveling in the forests, where they were sheltered from the drizzling rain. At that point they started hearing sounds all around them as the monsters came out from their slumber.

At least the heroes were getting closer to Elfheim. Any minute now they'd be able to see the top of the castle--

*CRAAAAACK!!*

One last bolt of lightning struck, splintering a tree and sending it crashing down. Conner narrowly escaped having the carriage crushed underneath it, but the damage was done. The incredibly loud cracking of the fallen tree had drawn the attention of several Ogres. And the moment the Ogres saw that rickety carriage, they gave chase. Just as they barreled out of the forest and into the open, the city of Elfheim in sight, they had eight Ogres stampeding after them.

"Ava!" Conner shouted. "What can you do about this!?"

"They are out of range," Ava answered, a faint hint of worry in her voice. "But they are gaining."

He knew what she meant. She couldn't hit any of them now, but by the time she could they'd all be on top of them. By the time she could hit one, it'd be too late.

"Can you slow 'em down!?"

"No."

Conner huffed, snapping the reins. "Hey!!" He waved his hand in the air, trying to get the attention of the distant Elves. "Over here!!"

At the edge of town, one of the guards was focusing on the little rumbling box. As soon as he realized what it was he nudged the other and turned towards the town. "The heroes have returned!"

The villagers nearby all came to get a closer look, but were almost immediately shoved back by the other guard. "They've got Ogres on their tails! Everyone back to your homes!"

The first guard started running towards the knight's tower. "Everyone to the front lines! Ogres have breached the perimeter!"

A line of troops funneled out of the knight's tower only a moment later. Forming a strong line at the village entrance, sword wielders knelt in front, and bow knights lined behind them. As the carriage neared, the knights prepared to jump out of the way.

"Watch out!" Conner shouted.

The knights broke formation as the carriage came speeding through. As soon as they were within the city though, Bruce, Emily, Ava and Ben all jumped out to join the fight. Conner slowed the carriage to a stop and handed the reins over to the guard ushering people to safety.
