Nearly ten... thousand... cycles...

Twenty million years.

Only recently has Chaos begun to falter, open himself up to counter attacks. Every several hundred years or so, the Warriors of Light find it in themselves to overcome the incredible power of Chaos, and strike back. They still have never defeated him, but these small victories began to revitalize the hope in the Council of Elders. They began to understand the purpose of the Crystal Shards. Chaos was one being, even with his Four Fiends. He could live infinite lifetimes, retaining the knowledge of each cycle, but he gained nothing. Whereas for the Warriors, each one had a unique life, a unique perspective, a unique experience. The Crystals were pooling this experience, collecting it.

Lukahn had been right again. The Crystals themselves intended to rival Chaos' might.

The Council began to aid the Warriors more seriously, ensuring they had everything they needed along their journey. They knew these quests would end tragically, but they knew now that at least they would not end in vain. Upon realizing this, Chaos' minions began to fight back harder and harder. The Fiends put up an honest fight, only accepting defeat as a last resort or because Chaos demanded it. The end goal was the same for both Chaos and the Council; reach the end of the adventure alive. But where the Council wanted the heroes as strong as possible to pass on their strength to the next cycle, Chaos wanted them as weak as possible, to continue his cycle for as long as possible.

This panic told the Council of Elders all they needed to know. Chaos... was afraid.

And then came the 10,000th cycle.

A well trained Martial Artist named Veris, a Fighter in the Cornelian ranks named Jasper, a wondering Thief named Klein, and--... Princess... Sarah.

The Princess was the first to receive her Crystal Shard, which King Winters hid from Lukahn and the rest of his people. The call went out to find the other Warriors of Light, but before they could arrive... Princess Sarah was taken by Garland. The memories of past lives flooded through Winters' mind, and he saw all the deaths of the heroes. Knowing she was chosen, he knew her fate was sealed. And the confusion of the city of Cornelia when the other three heroes were chosen and arrived at the castle.

Only three? But the prophecy predicted four! What has happened!?

The three Warriors were sent out to find and rescue Sarah from Garland, but her role remained a secret to even them. When the Warriors reached and challenged Garland to battle however, they discovered she had in fact been chosen as they had. Garland denied their claim to fight, and gave them explicit instructions to follow him to the past, when the time came. Then he disappeared.

The four Warriors of Light returned to Cornelia with news of what happened. King Winters demanded his daughter remained in the castle, in safety, but Sarah declared she was leaving. She knew not what she could offer the Warriors, but she knew her role was to aid them somehow. Unable to stop them, the Warriors set out for Pravoka, and King Winters sat on a quiet throne in solitude...
