"You do it." I shoved the envelope towards Elliot.
"What?! No! You do it!" He shoved it back at me.
We sat looking at the white envelope for weeks. I am 5 months pregnant now.
Half way there. Over half way there. I will be having our baby in about 4 months and we still don't know the gender even having the envelope for weeks. I can't bring myself to look and neither can Elliot. I have no idea why but I just can't.
"We have to know. We just need to open it. It's simple lets just open it together!" Elliot bit his lip looking down at the envelope.
"Yeah yeah...let's do that."
"Ok...1...2...3!"
Neither of us moved. Shit. Why is this so hard?! It's almost annoying.
We both sighed and leaned back on the couch. Elliot threw the envelope onto the coffee table. I rested my hands on my bump. It was bigger than most people at 5 months. We were concerned that I might have twins but the doctor assured us there was only one baby and that I was just a really small person so that's why my bump was so prominent.
Elliot placed his head carfully on my stomach. He would sit and talk to the baby about his day and just a bunch of nothingness. He would sing songs and hold my hand counting my fingers out loud to the baby as well.
It makes me smile. I was so worried that I would be raising this child alone but here I am sitting on a couch that costs more that my apartment with the ceo of a major company watching tv as he talks to our baby.
I brushed through Elliot's hair with my fingers as he laid on my stomach humming along with the lullaby he was singing.
DING DONG!
We both looked towards the door.
"Are you expecting anyone?" Elliot shook his head asking me the same question. I shook my head no and Elliot got up sighing and heading to answer the door.
"SURPRISE!" I heard Tyler and Cate's voices at the door. I got up and walked over to them.
"What are you guys doing here?!" I said as I gave them both a hug.
"We noticed that this is the building that you guys live in and got excited and stopped by!"
I cocked and eyebrow at them. Tyler kept the same smile the entire time. Lying. They are lying.
"First off, how did you get up here without them contacting me?" Elliot questioned them folding his arms over his chest.
"We um..."
"You guys snuck in didn't you."
"Yeah." They both said in unison. I laughed at them both.
"You two are horrible liars." They both dropped their heads.
"Sorry!" This time Elliot laughed and gave them the go ahead to come in.
I went back to the couch plopping down with a huff. Elliot followed be like a puppy and sat down right next to me.
"You guys can sit anywhere."
Tyler and Cate nodded their heads and sat over on the loveseat that sat a little closer to the tv then the couch. Elliot rested his head on my shoulder with his hand finding it's usual spot on my bump.
"So what really made you guys come here?"
I could see Cate fidgeting and Tyler looking back and forth between us.
"Come on, out with it."
"We want to know if it's a boy or girl!" Cate blurted out almost in a yell.
"That's it? Well we don't even know."
Both Tyler and Cate looked confused. Elliot pointed to the envelope on the coffee table.
"It's in there. We can't bring ourself to look at it for some reason."
"Well...can we throw you a gender reveal?!" I raised an eyebrow at her question. I looked over to Elliot he shrugged which means it's up to me.
"Sure."
"Really?! You're not kidding?!" She ran over to both Elliot and I and pulled us into a hug.
"EEEE IM SO EXCITED!!"
Tyler pulled Cate back over to the loveseat trying to get her to calm down.
"I'll do it all! Don't either of you lift a finger!"
Cate pulled out her phone obviously looking for ideas.
"Want my card?" Elliot was also on his phone but he was replying to emails.
""What...?" Elliot looked over at Cate was sitting there wide eyed.
"I mean it's our baby and you are planning it all the least we can do it pay for it."
Elliot reached over to the coffee table where all of his stuff was thrown when he got home because when he got home he literally threw his stuff and stripped out of his suit and laid down with me on the couch and that is what we had been doing for a couple hours.
He grabbed his wallet, which probably cost more than what is in Tyler and Cates bank accounts together, and handed her one of his many cards. He sat and waved it in front of her as she didn't move.
"Elliot...she's not sure what to do."
"It's fine! I promise."
Cate nodded slowly and took the card cradling it. I laughed at her reaction.
"I only just got used to it. I know its weird but he has to much money for his own good."
Cate nodded. I looked over at Tyler who had a stunned look on his face as well. I chuckled and Elliot laid his head back down on my shoulder. We talked for a bit longer with Tyler and Cate before they left. Cate had so many ideas for the gender reveal. I'm actually....quite excited for it!
