It had barely been a week when I got a very excited phone call from Cate.
"I'm done! It's done!"
I had barely picked up the phone before she started screaming excitedly. I could hear her jumping around with Tyler trying to calm her down. I chuckled.
"Already?! That was fast."
"She has been working on it non-stop!" I heard Tyler yell from the other end.
"Dont you worry Dex! All you need to do is leave you and Elliot's house for a couple hours while we set it up!"
I smiled. She is so excited.
"Ok we can do that. When will that be?"
I walked over to the calendar that hung on the fridge picking up a pen to write the date down.
"Tomorrow!"
I stopped moving.
"What do you mean tomorrow?"
"It's set for tomorrow!"
I sighed placing the pen down.
"Cate...I love you but, you should have gave us more warning. Elliot works tomorrow! What am I supposed to do all day?"
There was silence on the other end of the call. I was a bit worried but she finally spoke.
"I'm sorry...maybe you could go see your family or something."
I sighed again. I can't stay mad at her. She was just so excited.
"Yeah maybe-"
Family?! OH MY FUCKING GOD! I HAVENT TOLD MY FAMILY! Shit! What do I do?! I got out of Christmas saying I was too sick to travel. I got out of new years saying I already had plans! I forgot! I forgot to tell my family that I'm fucking pregnant.
"Dex?"
"Good idea! I'll leave now and uh...and spend that night and day then come back when it's ready!"
Before Cate could respond I hung up the phone slamming it down on the counter. I can't believe that I forgot to tell my family. Elliot and I have been living in our own peaceful world for months. I am happy right now! They'll be so mad when they find out...I know they will.
I heard the door open and shut and in walked Elliot. He had one of those big huge goody grins on his face. I raised an eyebrow at him.
"What did you do?"
He had his hands behind his back obviously hiding something.
I put my hand out.
"Give it."
He shook his head as he came closer the big grin still spread across his face.
He reveled a little black gift bag from behind him. He put it about his head knowing very well that I wouldn't be able to reach.
"If you can reach it I'll give it too you."
He wiggled the bag that hung above his head. Idiot. I chuckled.
I poked him in the side and he dropped his arms shriveling back. I snatched the bag out of his hands giving him a look.
"No fair!"
I laughed at him.
"Well I have it now."
He huffed and came over to me once again. I placed the bag on the counter starting to open it. Elliot came up behind me wrapping his arms around me his hands resting on my bump. He laid his chin on the top of my head. I'm short I know.
I pulled the tissue paper out carefully not sure what he actually had in here. The bag wasn't very heavy either. Once all the tissue paper was out all that was left was a little red velvet box in the bottom of the bag.
I snapped my head around looking at Elliot. My eyes were wide. Is this what I think it is?! No, it can't be an engagement ring. I mean we aren't even dating!
"Open it."
I turned back around taking the small box out of the bag. I opened the lid to reveal the most beautiful ring I think I have ever seen. It was...breathtaking. The main gem was a mixture of purples, blues, and greens. On either side were diamonds. I started to tear up.
"It's all real, obviously...do you like it?"
I couldn't say anything. I nodded my head. What even kind of gem are those colors?
"I don't even know what kind of gemstone that is but it's real that's all I know."
It's like he's read my mind answering the question I had just thought of.
"Dex..."
He twirled me around to face him now. I was still to stunned to speak. I don't deserve this. I don't deserve this wonderful man who bought me a ring that probably cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. A man who not only takes wonderful care of me but is ready to be a father. I'm not good enough for him. But I can't help but fall in love with him.
"Dex...will you be my boyfriend? I was ready to propose but...let's take things slow. Right?"
I laughed.
"Slow? We are having a baby."
Elliot laughed nodding his head.
"So..."
I bit my lip. The answer is obviously yes but I want to make him sweat a little.
"I don't know..."
Elliot seemed taken back.
"Oh...I'll wait until you are ready then."
He smiled at me. I couldn't hold it back. I let out a huge laugh and Elliot looked even more confused than before.
"Of course I'll be your boyfriend idiot."
"Really?!"
"Yes."
Elliot hugged me tightly kissing me.
"You made it look like a proposal."
"I did?!"
"With the beautiful ring and the little speech..."
"Ahh...oops?"
I laughed slapping him on the chest. I turned back around and pulled the ring out of the box. I placed it on my right hand. I held it up. Beautiful.
"Like it? I spent forever picking it out. I know you like color and stuff that's a bit more flashy."
"It's absolutely perfect."
We both sat looking at the ring that sat on my finger until I remembered the whole baby shower situation.
"Um...by they way Cate planned the baby shower for tomorrow."
I turned around to Elliot giving him a smile. I could see him thinking of a way to approach this.
"I work tomorrow..."
"I know...but she said that all the things she ordered are ready tomorrow..."
Elliot sighed. He laughed a little under his breath.
"Well, I guess we will know if the baby is a boy or girl tomorrow!"
I smiled at him. Yes, this is the man I love. I am sure of it.
