Part thirty-five

Why's he here?! How did he even find out where I was?!
"Elliot!"
I yelled at him as he grabbed onto Lakes shirt bringing him up from the floor slightly. His fist was clenched tightly and looked as if he was about to punch him.
"Stop Elliot! Let go of him!"
I stumbled over to them try to get there before Elliot hit him. I know Elliot. I know when he happy or sad. I know when he's so angry that all he sees if the person who did wrong to him or to someone he loves. I know that he will actually hurt him.
"Elliot I swear to god if you hit him we're done!"
Elliot seemed to here me through his anger and dropped Lakes. I rushed over to him hoping he wasn't seriously injured.
"Are you ok?!"
He nodded but skewed his eyes shut in pain.
"Just my head, I'm alright."
I clenched my jaw tightly. I stood up and and stormed to Elliot.
"You idiot! I can not believe you just did that!"
I pointed a finger at him as I yelled. Now I was mad. I was so pissed that he came in here and threw down the person who helped me when I needed it. It should have been Elliot not him.
"I hate you! I hate you so much I could die!"
Elliot looked shocked at my last sentence.
"Why?! I'm confused why you hate me so much?!"
I gave him a dumbfounded look. Is he serious?
"Are you serious! You must be an actual idot! First off you MARRY SOMONE ELSE! Second you were NEVER and I mean NEVER there for me! I was alone with Arlo night after night day after day! I doubt Arlo even knows who you are! I'm so sick and tired of your bullshit! I'm done. Ok? You hear me? WE are done."
He stood there. I could see tears starting to form in his eyes. He's crying?! I SHOULD BE THE ONE CRYING!
"Dont start crying. I'm disappointed in myself mostly. I might be the actual idot for believing that you would stay with me. You showed interest for awhile so I thought you would stay but as soon as the hard part came of raising the kid...you basically left. Get out. Just leave."
He rapidly shook his head no.
"I'm not leaving! Dex, please let me explain the situation! I love you! I promise I really do! Just 10 minutes! Listen to me for 10 minutes. That's all I need. Please?"
I looked down. I saw a small toy that was Arlos laying there. I should listen for him right? It's not fair if he grows up without a dad.
"I'll listen, but only for Arlo. He deserves to have a Dad. I'll decide after you talk if it's you or not."
Elliot looked like a hot mess. His hair was crazy and he had bags under his eyes. His tie wasn't on all the way and I'm pretty sure he only had one sock on. Only 3 of the buttons on his shirt were actually buttoned and his outfit didn't go together at all.
"Fix yourself up before we talk."
Elliot looked down at himself and nodded. He fixed his tie and shirt but he couldn't really do anything about the sock. He combed his hair over with his fingers and ran his hands down his face.
He gave me a look saying "all better?"
I shrugged.
"Lakes if you don't mind. Could you watch Arlo for a minute while we talk?"
"Of course."
I noticed that Lakes eyes never left Elliot. I'm guessing he has a lot of question for him also.
Elliot and I walked down the hall and into the stairwell.
"Let's talk here."
He nodded and fidgeted with his fingers.
"So? Explain."
He swallowed.
"First off...I DO love you. And I love Arlo. He's my son of course I love him I would NEVER try and get out of raising him. And you...you are my Dex."
I gave him a dead stare.
"I guess I never relized that I was gone so much. That's how it used to be before I met you. I was lucky enough that during the pregnancy the whole airy with my mom was happening so I was told to lie low. That's why I able to be home so much. But now that she is in jail it's back to regular work."
I nodded. Ok, maybe I was being a little too pissy about that part.
"I understand that your work is a huge part of your life but I thought Arlo and I were too."
"You are! You are and even bigger part! Usually I wouldn't be gone AS late but I have a shit ton of paper work to do. The company was finally signed over to me so that's what's been taking up so much time."
Shit. I'm a really horrible person. We should have been celebrating together. That's a huge accomplishment yet I've been too mad at him to even realize.
"The second thing...the marriage."
Yep. That's why I'm mad at him. That was the entire reason that this started.
"It...was arranged by the company. They thought since I wasn't married I should be. Then I almost fired the entire board because I was so royally pissed about it because...I had you. I was going to marry you. I still want to marry you. That picture...I have no explanation for the picture. There was a photo shoot but I had no idea that I was going to be used like that."
I bit the inside of my cheek. I dropped my head into my hands.
"I'm such a horrible person."
"No! No your not!"
"Yes I am! This could have all been avoided if I had LISTENED to you but I was to pissed off to answer a DAMN TEXT!"
"Dex..."
I shook my head my eyes still covered.
"I really am a bad person. Arlo doesn't deserve me as a mother he would be better off with a different mom..."
"Dexlynn! Shut up!"
I finally opened my eyes to see Elliot down on one knee.
"You are not a horrible person or a horrible mom. Arlo won't even remember any of this. He's only a couple months old! And I love you. I love you and him so much. And I'll try to spend less time at work."
I opened my mouth to object to that but he shushed me.
"Nope! Anyway, you are the mother of my child and...and the love of my life, so will you do me the honor of marrying me?"
Tears began to roll down my face as I nodded yes.
"Yes you big idiot! I will."
