I slipped on my jacket that Tyler and Cate had gotten for us. I carefully pulled Arlos on him and helped Elliot fix the sleeves on his. I buckled Arlo into the stroller and made sure we had plenty of everything that he needed. Bottles, diapers, change of clothes and some small toys.
Arlo was a little over a month old now. It was late July and the heat was almost unbearable at points. Yet today a cold breeze blew and the heat went down. It was almost like a spring day.
With the weather being so nice both Elliot and I decided to go out as a family for a day. I basically forced Elliot to wear the jacket so we would all be matching.
Elliot was supposed to be buckling Arlo into the car as I grabbed the last couple things we needed from the house but when I walked out I saw Elliot with Arlo out of his carrier showing him a butterfly that had landed on one of the planter boxes.
"That's a butterfly."
Elliot pointed to it and I saw Arlos eyes follow. Then he smiled. Arlo smiled! I haven't seen him do that yet. I fumbled around for my phone finding it and snapping a picture.
"Are my boys ready to go?"
Elliot looked up at me and smiled, nodding his head. He went ahead and started to get Arlo into car while I locked up the house and packed in Arlos bag.
We finally headed off. I was getting so excited for the day that we had planned out. We would go and eat breakfast at this cute cafe we had been to before then do some shopping and looking around the eat our lunch I had made this morning in the park. After that most likely would wander around some more and take way to many photos of Arlo before heading back home to have dinner.
We made it to the cafe and went inside picking a table along the wall near the back. Both Elliot and I ordered coffee but I ordered a chocolate scone and Elliot got a bagel. I fed Arlo while we waited for our food and drinks. Elliot and I talked and laughed about nothing super important.
Honestly the entire day went perfectly. The shopping was fun and the lunch was delicious. Everything was great until the ride home.
We rode silently listening to the radio. My phone dinged and I assumed it was just a text from Cate or Tyler but when I checked it was an email from the college I had applied to. I hadn't told Elliot about applying because I want confident that I would get in but when I opened the email I read down trying to find the word denied but instead read accepted. My breathing hitched for a second. I glanced over to Elliot trying to see if he had noticed but he just hummed along with the song tapping his fingers on the steering wheel.
I closed out of the email and slumped down in the seat.
"Something wrong?"
I looked out the window not wanting to face him.
"No, nothings wrong just tired."
He nodded and didn't say anything else. Should I tell him? He might be mad I never mentioned that I applied. Or he could be really happy for me. I thought so long about it we had entered the driveway and I still hadn't said anything.

A week later
I sat slightly chewing my nails as Elliot and I both sat on the couch together watching the TV while Arlo slept in his rocker.
"Dont chew your nails."
Elliot pulled my hand down and out of my nails.
"Is some thing bothering you?"
I should tell him now.
"No."
Shit.
He nodded and started to rub circles on my back as we sat there.

Another week later.
Arlo and I sat at home alone. Elliot had to go into work late last night and hadn't been home. It was almost 6pm. I folded clothes while Arlo laid on the floor on a sensory mat. I watched the local news while folding not paying much attention to was the anchor was saying until I heard the name "Elliot Buecanon".
My head shot up towards the TV. The news anchor spoke.
"It is rumored that the famous businessman Elliot Buecanon is to be getting married."
I thought that a picture of Elliot and I would have popped up. That would be the correct assumption right? Yet a picture of Elliot holding the waist of a women and smiling down at her and her back up at him came up on the screen.
My brow furrowed. I looked down at Arlo and he smiled at me. A feeling of dread filled my body. What is going on?
