I arrive downstairs, the mild summer air embracing me once again. Even though it's not cold at all, I cross my arms over my chest. Jace's car is still standing in his parking spot, signalling me that he walked to whatever location he's going to. That means he can't be far at all. I look to my right, and sure enough, I see him walking around the corner at the very end of the street. I quickly pick up my pace and walk fast enough to catch up to him, but slow enough for him not to see me. For some reason my heart is beating out of my chest. He'll be so mad when he finds out that I followed him even though he asked me not to.
When I arrive at the corner where Jace just turned, I worry for a second that I've lost him out of my sight. Continuing to walk slowly might be the best idea. He must've taken a turn somewhere else. The sky is dark by now, and no one else is wandering the streets. I wonder if I should just turn around but, despite the creeps I'm feeling, decide against it.
"That's the 20 grams you asked for" I hear faintly, and freeze instantly. Jace.
I try to be as quiet as possible, and continue walking until I reach the alley between two buildings, where I assume the voices are coming from. I peek around the corner slowly, and notice three figures standing in the dark, knowing right way that one of them is my boyfriend. Light is shining on his backside, and I recognise his hair and his clothes.
I want to know who's with him; the whole reason I followed him in the first place. I'm so angry about today's situation, that I contemplate on just walking up to them to see, but know that Jace would kill me if I did. Some of the people he sells to are dangerous, and he'd never want them to know about the two of us.
Jace hands over a tiny plastic bag, and I'm surprised to see that he doesn't get money in return. Wait. I've always wondered where Jace stores the cocaine. He left tonight without grabbing any from the apartment. That must mean that he grabbed it from his car?
I wonder if my assumption's right, but there's no way he would store it in there. He drives me around in that car, we've even had sex in there. I don't think he'd put me in danger like that. One police officer pulling him over could easily be the end for him. I make a mental note to ask Jace about it later. Might as well, since he'll find out that I followed him anyway. I can already see the fight coming.
Jace and the two other people are still taking, and I wonder about what. One of the voices is definitely female, but I can't hear what any of them are saying. My curiosity gets the better of me, and I contemplate on finding a way to get closer without them noticing me. Guessing they're busy and not expecting anyone, I move around the corner to quickly walk over to stand behind one of the enormous trashcans.
On my way over, I notice Jace taking one step to the side, probably getting ready to leave. The light leaves his back, putting the two people he was just talking to into the spotlight. I freeze for the second time today, and my blood instantly begins to boil. Jessica and Derek. Of course.
