Chapter 47: Alive

"You're Conan...aren't you?" Ran whispered but loud enough for Shinich to hear.

Shinichi was stunned by the question that Ran just blurted out. His lips parted from each other but no words came out of his mouth.

He didn't know what to respond with. To tell her the truth now that there's no danger at all. Or to lie to her and take the secret to his grave.

Though it wasn't a difficult question to answer, Shinichi felt as if his soul left his body. He suddenly thought of you. He began questioning himself if you would tell their secret to Ran or what would you do in his situation right now.

"You are, right?" Ran spoke up catching Shinichi out of his thoughts. She finally looked up and her glossy eyes met Shinichi's.

"I-I..."

"Don't even lie Shinichi!" She raised her voice a bit, "I saw you hunched over....panting heavily while trying to scream but nothing came out." She whispered holding back the rest of her tears.

"Ran I-"

"All this time, you lied to me. All those nights I cried for you to come back, you stayed there listening to me sob and cry. You were under my roof along with Lilith...Kuroba Y/n."

"Please listen to me Ran!" Shinichi yelled, gripping her shoulders with his strength. "We had no choice but to keep it a secret! You saw what happened right?! You could've died along with the others as well!"

"Still! Don't you trust me?!"

"It's not about trust! It was a life or death situation that everyone was involved in!"

Ran stayed quiet but spoke after a while. "They were after the Kuroba family, right? That's why they knew Kaito-kun. Are they the reason why we're hurt?!"

"NO! DON'T YOU DARE TALK LIKE THAT!"

Ran stepped back from the sudden yell. She got startled and Shinichi noticed it. He sighed frustrated and ran his fingers down his tangled hair strands, pushing his hair back in the act.

"They didn't have nothing to do with it..."

"I know."

Shinichi looked up at what Ran said. He raised a brow at her, confused. Ran wiped her stained tears and smiled at him.

"You like her...right?" She asked, trying her best to keep the smile on her lips.

"R-Ran..."

"You were so...determined to save her. It wasn't because she was just a victim.. but because you were afraid to let her go. She's the light to your life...just like how I once was."

Shinichi stayed quiet, not knowing what to say. She was in fact right. You were the light to his life and he adored you so much that when he saw you go on your knees with blood flowing down your stomach, he felt his world stop.

His heart ached and tightened he saw you get bruised and beaten up. It hurted him even more seeing you lie down on a hospital bed and finding out you're the thief he was so determined to catch.

"I'm sorry..."

"Don't be. She's alive, right? Those men are in jail, right? Then everything is fine now." She said turning around and walking away from him. "And don't worry about your secret, I won't say anything."

Before Shinichi could say anything else, Ran had already moved away from his sight. She ran away from him before she regrets letting the love of her life go just like that.

She entered the bathroom and slammed the door shut behind her as she entered one of the stalls. Instead of fighting for the guy she loved the most since childhood, she let go.
