Chapter 23

Clara's POV
My heart aches for Danny. He's not a want anymore- he never was. He's a need, an essential to my life.
I flop onto bed, burying my face in the pillow. I hear my door creak open and someone sits on the edge of the bed silently.
I know it's Lily. She's the only one who gives a damn, even though I can tell she's wrapped up in thoughts about Chin Boy. And he's too obsessed with her to care either. But I won't interfere. I won't be a control freak for once.
Lily just sits on the bed, but the fact that she's there and cares comforts me more than if she said "you'll be okay" and left.
I sit up and hug her slim frame. "Lily, what can I do?" I choke out, holding back sobs.
She looks at me sadly. "I don't know. I'm sorry. Time won't let you rewrite his story."
I sigh. "The thing is that I need him. My English skills suck, and I teach that subject! And I snap at the kids too much."
She kisses my forehead affectionately. "Someday, somehow, everything will make sense and explain itself and fix itself. I swear, Clara, I'll help you get Danny Pink back. No matter what it takes."

The Doctor's POV
Amy turns to me. "What happened? Souffle girl died!"
I explain as simply as I can. "... and she threw herself into my timeline to save me. Then I went back for her."
"And who's the pretty blonde-brunette you stare at all the time?"
I blush. "Lily is Clara's best friend. And I do not stare at her."
Amy laughs. "Good choice, Doctor, she's perfect for you."
I turn away from her. "Shut up, Amy."
"But-"
"Rory, tell Pond to shut up."
"It's Williams. And drop it, Amy."
"But they-"
"Amy..." Rory says warningly.
"But..."
"AMY!"
"Sorry."
