"No, she like mentioned her dad and everything, it was fucked up. Just let her sleep it off, we can go later."
I could hear voices speaking softly, their words barely above a whisper as my eyes opened just slightly, adjusting to the golden light coming in through the large windows. Shit, I didn't mean to fall asleep, everyone was probably pissed. I sigh at the thought and rub my eyes a bit, sitting up more before hearing one of the boys talk again.
"There she is, sleeping beauty finally arises from a summers nap." Josh says, speaking theatrically with his hands as Jake gives me a soft smile and the other boys glance over from the kitchen.
"I'm really sorry, I didn't mean to fall asleep, what time is it?" I mumbled, trying to get my voice to sound less sleepy by clearing my throat. "Only 7:45, you're totally fine." Danny responds, shooting me a smile as I look at him over the back of the couch, returning a sleepy grin back with a little nod. "I'll go get changed so we can get out of here." I say, standing and stretching briefly before going to the guest room where my things were.
Once I was dressed, I look in the mirror, smoothing the dark blue dress over my skin as it hugged to my curves and messing with my hair a bit since I decided to wear it down. I turn when I hear a knock on the door "come in!" I say from the bathroom, looking at the door and stepping back onto the carpet. After a few seconds, Sam walks through the doorway, closing the door behind him and making his way over to me. He pulls me into a big hug that I instantly melt into. As close as I was with Jake back home, Sam and I were closer, seeing as how we were so near in age. Now he towered over me, his arms wrapping around my frame as I let my head rest against his chest. He smelled like vanilla and faint cigarettes, but in a nice way, not that of a 40 year old who smokes two packs a day.
"I missed you, Janey." he says softly, my lips pulling into a smile at the old nickname as I close my eyes.
"I missed you too, Sammy. So much." I mumble back.
I hadn't realized that I never got a moment alone to say hello to the boy who was once attached at the hip with me, the only one I had been alone with was Jake. I knew it was hard when we all lost contact, I wasn't allowed to have a phone until I could pay for my own, so the second I passed the sign, the one telling me we were exiting Frankenmuth, I was gone without a trace.
"I wish I could have called, I feel like I missed so much of your guys' lives." I mumble, just above a whisper, staying still with him there.
"Well, you've got us back now, and we've finally got you back too. We have a lot of memories to make up for." He always knew what to say to me. Sam was one of the only people in my life, including his brothers, who wouldn't let me overthink. They were more about doing than thinking. He pulls away and places a soft kiss on my forehead, a platonic show of love, before sitting down on the bed. "You know if you ever need somewhere to cra-" he starts before I cut him off. "He already told all of you, didn't he?" I received a small nod from the long-haired boy, letting me know that he knew everything that went down with my mom earlier. "I'm perfectly fine where I am, I promise. Now grab my phone, put everyone's numbers in so I have them." I say, changing the subject and giving him something to do, I know how his brain works pretty well at this point.
He picks my phone up and opens it, since I had no need for a password, opening the contacts and looking at me.
"MJ, you have like 5 contacts in your phone. How?" he says with a shocked look, making me smile as I mess with my hair in the mirror.
"Well, I've got my mom, Alex, both of my bosses, and my grandma's old number. Only people I need to have in there." I shrug, sitting beside him and leaning my head on his shoulder as I watch him enter the phone numbers along with each boys name. "just Alex and your mom and bosses? What about your other friends? Not big texters?" he asks as he finishes saving Danny to my phone and texts each number saying who it is so they have my number as well.
"What makes you think I have other friends out here?" I ask with a small laugh as I take my phone back "I have everything I need just how I am, no need for people to tell me what to do."
He smiles and ruffles my hair a little bit, standing up and holding out a hand for me "lets go, I think the guys are ready." he says as I take his hand and we head back out to the living room to find all 3 of the guys playing Mario kart on the tv. They were all already dressed and ready to go whenever I was done, which made me feel bad knowing that they were waiting.
"And who told all of you to play Mario kart without me?" I asked dramatically, pretending to be hurt as I placed my hand over my heart. I could recall so many snow days spent in the Kiszka house playing this same game, and beating the boys and Ronnie every single round. Okay maybe not every round, but a lot!
The boys laugh as I squeeze between Jake and Josh on the couch, fitting just barely since they were sitting close, and pulling the remote from Josh's hands.
"What the hell!" he says, taking his turn to be dramatic as I start playing as his character, quickly gaining the lead on the other two while Josh bickers with...well, himself. Even if I wasn't responding, that man was still whining. Once I won the race and sufficiently rubbed it into the faces of the other two sitting on the couch, I got up and set the controller down.
"Come on, I wanna get there before they start playing the shitty music!" I say, pulling my shoes on and waiting by the door, ready to finally have a night of fun with my friends.
