"Go! Hurry!" Mrs. Perez shooed, kicking Camilo and I out of the orphanage. It was an hour early before the first day of the wedding rehearsal. Camilo laughed, stumbling out of the doorway.
"But, Mrs. Perez--" I complained and she just grabbed my head and planted a quick kiss onto my forehead.
"Make sure she comes back before 9." The slinder woman told Camilo and he nodded before she too planted a kiss on his cheek. There was suddenly a loud clatter from inside the orphanage and Mrs. Perez gasped, whipping her head behind her. My eyes widened and we heard a:
"MARCO!"
Camilo laughs just as Mrs. Perez grabbed her skirt up into her hands with annoyance,
"Ay, that boy." She grumbled and then closed the door. I stared at the door with worry, uncomfortable about stepping out from the building for too long. I felt a tap on my shoulder and I turned to see the Madrigal boy tilt his head,
"Shall we get going?" He asked and I stared at him, my worried expression melting away. I nodded, glancing back at the door of the orphanage and then following Camilo to his magical home.
"We're literally an hour early." I breathed out a laugh and the boy walking next to me nodded, stuffing his hands into his front pockets. The town was as lively as ever. The villagers waved at the two of us as we made our way up a small slope.
"Mm, the more time to spend with me, duh." He said matter-of-factly and I snorted at his comment. Camilo gave me a side glance, amused by the noise that came from my throat.
"No, I haven't seen your family in days. I must catch up with them and see how they're doing." I planned, determined to stick to it. Camilo scoffed,
"Pff, I can tell you how they're doing-- they're fine. Living the best life in Casita, sipping tequila and throwing parties." He threw his arms into the air to better express himself. I raised a brow because what he said was quite true.
"Thanks for the offer, but I'll get their side of the story." I giggled and he pouts. In minutes, we came upon the beautiful home of the Madrigal's. The tiles of the roof click-clats at my presence and I waved, awestruck. Camilo grinned at me just as Casita greeted us in. Gawking up at the house, I hadn't noticed that Camilo casually slipped his hand in mine to guide me inside before I could trip on anything.
"Mama, Y/n's here for the rehearsal!" Camilo calls and the heads of each Madrigal, popped out from almost every corner of the house. I averted my eyes back in front of me then down to our hands. I blushed and quickly took my hand out of his light grip.
"Ah, Y/n!"
"Oh, hey~"
"How've you been? How's your Papa?"
"You look so grown up, darlin'."
Everyone talked over one another, overwhelming me with their love. They came and hugged me, taking my hand in theirs and observing me with gentle eyes. I gave them an awkward smile,
"Aw, come on. Give her some space." The Madrigal's Abuela laughs from walking gracefully down Casita's staircase. The family members groaned jokingly and parted from me. Camilo caught my eyes and gave me a toothy smile.
"Hello, Y/n." She tilted her head to me and I bent my knees a little out of respect, fanning out my dress a little.
"H-hello." I managed to say in her presence. I was only so nervous because I was in the spotlight. The elderly woman approached me and smiled, observing me softly. She turned her head to her family members,
"Be kind and show our guest her Bridesmaid dress. We shall start rehearsals shortly." She announced and winked at me with a small grin. I bit my bottom lip and next thing I knew everyone cheered and I felt someone tug at my arm. Everyone dispersed and my eyes averted to the person in front of me, dragging me upstairs.
"M-Mirabel!" I giggled and she quickly adjusted her glasses from it slipping off the bridge of her nose.
"Hey, Y/n! Oo, you're gonna love the dress Dolores picked out for us!" She squealed and tightened her grip on my arm as she did so. I smiled and glanced downstairs seeing Camilo occupying himself by helping his father with something.
In seconds, I was pulled behind the door that was once a nursery room. I remember helping the Madrigal's with fixing up their home years ago. We'd enlarged the room for Mirabel, to make it her room.
"You gotta see this!" She says and closes the door. She went straight to her new closet and swung open its doors. There, hung my dress along with the other matching Bridesmaid's dresses.
The pastel pink attracted my eyes and when Mirabel took mine out to compare with hers, I realized that they were slightly different. Hers was an off the shoulder dress, and mine was a halter neck.
The color was the same and there were no major designs embroidered onto it. It sat with simple ruffles and white lacing at the bottom of the skirt. It was still so beautiful. We wouldn't want to outshine the Bride, now do we?
"How do you like it?" Mirabel asked, her voice high with excitement. I was speechless because I was never offered a well sewn dress before. I reached and touched the silkiness of the fabric.
"... Can I try it on--"
"Yes, yes! But we can't wear it during rehearsals."
Mirabel winced apologetically then handed me my dress, observing me for a moment then she laughed nervously. She clasped her hands together in front of her.
"A-ah, I shouldn't look." She says and quickly turns her back to me.
"It's fine, I always change in front of the girls at my home." I admit, it was only natural since I bathe with the little ones. But still, she kept her back to me and I quickly slipped off my dress to place on the pink one. I adjusted my braid and looked in the mirror that Mirabel had in her room.
My eyes widened at the way the dress complimented the curve of my body. The color enhanced my skin tone and my eyes. The halter neck design made my shoulders look slender and elegant. I have to admit... I looked like a princess.
