I sat up in bed after Mrs. Perez woke me up telling me to get ready for Dolores's wedding. The children around me began stirring awake and it took me a second to realize that today was the day. My brows raised high onto my forehead and I scrambled out of bed,
"Oh, my goodness!"
My daily morning routine had been finished by Mrs. Perez so I decided to get ready. Just as I predicted, Papa and Mrs. Perez didn't hesitate to say yes when I asked about the sleepover. So I packed some clothes inside a large bag and double checked to make sure I had everything.
"The bow!" I gasped and quickly retrieved it and carefully placed it on top of everything inside the bag. I smiled with satisfaction and stood up to leave.
Although the wedding started around 5pm, the Madrigal's expected me to come early for additional touches to the decorations and food. "The Madrigal's" as in Mirabel and Camilo.
"Will you come by?" I asked Papa and Mrs. Perez just as I struggled to slip on my shoes at the front door. I swung the overpacked luggage on my shoulder. Papa chuckled and nodded, the top of his bald head glistening.
"Come by? Of course! Did you think that we didn't get an invite?" He asked with a dramatic gasp. I giggled and Mrs. Perez played along with his act,
"I cannot believe she thought we weren't invited all along." She scoffed and I laughed a little harder,
"No, that's not what I--"
"Oh, I know. We're only kidding-- now hurry along, child. You may be late." The older woman says with a flick of her wrist. I nodded and opened the door,
"Bye! I'll see you at 5!" I waved and they nodded, blowing me kisses before I stepped out the door.
"You goin' to the wedding, Y/n?" The baker called and I nodded, adjusting the heavyweight of my sleepover bag.
"Yes! Will you attend--"
"Darlin', I had the honor to make their wedding cake!" He laughs with his belly and I smiled at his comment. I began making my way to Casita and just when I was about to reach for the doorknob, Camilo swung it open with the biggest, brightest smile.
"What took you forever?" He asked from the doorway. It was literally 10 in the morning. It seemed like he's been waiting for me for quite a while now and I laughed just as his cousin pushes him aside with a hip bump.
"Come on, Y/n! We gotta help prep and then we can put on our bridesmaid dresses!" Mirabel giggles and suddenly snatches up my free hand in hers and yanks me in. Camilo watched in disbelief us as we ran toward the kitchen.
"Oh! Casita can handle your bag." Mirabel says and takes my luggage off of me and tosses it to where Casita comfortably caught it with its main staircase. We began assisting Julieta, Mirabel's mother, with cooking and making traditional desserts. Isabela soon came to our side, willing to help and soon the four hours of cooking ended.
"Where's Luisa?" Julieta had asked before Mirabel could run off with my arm in her grip. Isabela shrugged,
"I think she's carrying things to the church." She says and then beamed, "I'll get her." She offered and her mother smiled gently, washing her hands.
"Tell her to get ready, the wedding is in a couple hours." Julieta reminds and Mirabel's squeals at the announcement. Isabela nodded and left the kitchen just as Mirabel hurried me up the stairs. We got into her room and she quickly pulled out the dresses and laid them neatly on her bed.
"Have you figured out how you want to do your hair? I haven't, my hair's a little... wild." Mirabel admits sheepishly and adjusts her glasses. Casita closes the door to her room and I shook my head,
"I think I may just leave it down like I always do--"
"What? There's no fun in that! I think..." She reaches and collects my hair, holding it up at the back of my head. "Putting it in a bun would make Camilo go crazy!" She grins flirtatiously and I blushed,
"Stop, I don't think he'd really care--"
"Oh, shut it. He notices every detail about you, trust me." She released my hair and placed her hand on her chest when she said this. Suddenly, an image of Camilo in a crisp suit and tie flashed in my mind and I shook the thought away.
"Um, anyway. I think your hair would look better if..." I smiled suddenly and went over to my bag to take something out of it. I came back to stand in front of Mirabel and gently clipped the pink bow to her hair. Her eyes widened with surprise, and I adjusted it a little more before pulling away to look at the masterpiece. My friend squeals and throws her arms around me.
"Oh, you didn't have to get me anything, Y/n! You're too kind, I swear." She says and tightens her grip around my neck. Just as she pulls away to look at herself in the mirror, the door opens and the other two sisters walked in.
"Ready?!" Isabela hollers and Luisa closes the door behind them with a nervous look.
"Uh, I don't know how I feel about my bridesmaids dress, you guys." She admits in a discouraged tone, the fact that she was physically built differently than us. Mirabel scoffed,
"Luisa, you looked stunning! And you are stunning. So, don't you worry, you're gonna rock that dress." She reassured with such an enthusiastic energy which seemed to convince her older sister a little. Isabela went to the mirror and leaned in gracefully, observing each side of her face.
"Sister, what did I tell you about that mindset of yours?" She asked with a hint of sass in her voice. Isabela looks at her older sister through the mirror and Luisa averts her gaze down to the floor,
"That it's not healthy for me--"
"Exactly! So you're gonna put on that dress and show the world what you're made of! You're Luisa Madrigal for goodness sake." Isabela smirked aggressively and Luisa looked at everyone in the room and smiled with confidence.
"You're right!" She says and Mirabel cheers, pumping her fists into the air.
"Alright! Let's do this girls!"

Two hours passed of gossiping, doing each other's hair, and admiring one another when Dolores walks into the room with her wedding dress.
"How's the finished look?" She asked, giving us a slight twirl at the doorway. Everyone, including me, gaped at her pure beauty. She was truly stunning, it just naturally runs in the family, I guess. The way here dress cinched at her waist created a pleasant hour glass shape of her body. A white bandana held up the natural curls of her hair and the necklace that Pepa gifted her simply popped out, leading your eyes to it.
"Oh, my-- I'm getting all emotional, Dolores!" Mirabel exclaimed with her hands clasped over her mouth before she went to hug the Bride. Dolores giggled,
"Oh, stop it--"
"You look absolutely gorgeous, Dolores." Luisa says in her bridesmaids dress that she was now confident in. Isabela nods in agreement, crossing her arms over her chest,
"I knew that dress would do you good." She brags and everyone laughs. Dolores looks at the four of her Bridesmaids and smiles brightly,
"Okay, but can we talk about you guys?!" She says with the sweetest giggle. Right as everyone continued on this light-hearted conversation, something caught my eyes just on the other side of Casita. Camilo came out of his room, adjusting his tux and he looked up just as I did.
It had seemed that he had attempted to style his hair, but it came out with an untamed curl hanging over his forehead. Although, I had to admit, it complimented his features. The black and whites of his suit hugged his body perfectly, emphasizing the smooth curve of his waist and his shoulders.
Despite the lengthy space between us, I saw his eyes widen at the sight of me standing in Mirabel's room in my pastel pink dress. I've never worn my hair in a bun in front of Camilo, now that I think about it. And I'm sure with my hair style this way, it was half the reason he froze in the hallway. However, the theory was confirmed at that moment that natural beauty did, in fact, run in his family.
