We sat at the base of one of the magnolia trees, our shoulders touching one another. I hugged my knees to my chest as Camilo sprawled his legs out in front of him, leaning back into the tree behind us.

"Thanks Camilo." I mumbled under my breath, embarrassed that he witnessed me crying just moments ago. "I didn't realize I needed to see these magnolia trees." I admitted and glanced around us, watching as the whites of their pedals drifted in the moonlight. He looks at me sideways and huffs out a small laugh,

"What'd I tell ya?" He nudged me a little too hard and I nearly fell over on my side. I laughed and caught myself, before shoving him over too. He chuckled and rubbed his arm. I sighed and tightened my arms around my legs before I picked up a flower from off the ground. I smiled and held it up, turning and tucking it in the curls of Camilo's hair.

I laughed at its awkward position, the flower sitting on the top of his head. For a moment he was flustered until he heard my mocking laugh.

"You look like a magical unicorn." I gagged and he threw me an odd expression before cackling alongside me.

"Yeah? You know what you look like?" He asked with a brow raised and I smiled, waiting to see what creative mockery he would spit out. He leaned and kissed my cheek, "My girlfriend." He simply says, his voice gentle and velvety like his sister's. My eyes widened as he pulled away from my reddened face. He quickly realized what he did and was taken back,

"Uh, sorry! I got carried away." He stuttered and covered his face with both of his hands. Frozen, I made sure to take my time to process what had just happened. I placed my hand on my heart to feel how hard it was pumping. My mind was stuck on how gentle our skin contact was. I bit my lip just as he winced up at me,

"Sorry." He whispered and I quickly shook my head,

"N-no... No worries." I honestly didn't know how to reply to that. I looked away and suddenly the tension wasn't so peaceful anymore. After a few moments of settling in, I cleared my throat,

"So, tell me... how did the trees call you to come here?" I asked, rubbing my arms a little too awkwardly. I just wanted to break the unsettling silence into little pieces. I glanced at him to see that the flower still sat securely on his head. I could help but crack the smallest smile. Camilo avoided my gaze,

"... Uh, well..." He started, "Do you remember when we met?" He asked attempting to throw me a side glance. I nodded and laughed at the memories,

"Oh, no. The horror of our cringy past." I gasped sarcastically and suddenly the tension from earlier faded as he chuckled at my comment.

"I thought it was cute." He admits with a slight grin and relaxes. I shivered and shook my head,

"Camilo, those memories are made to be hidden in the deepest, darkest corner of the closet-- it's not cute." I laughed and his ears perked at the twinkling of my voice.

"Yeah? What about the time you were singing in the rain--"

"No!"

"... You literally sang your heart out like how a dying bird would when gasping for air--"

"CAMILO!" I gasped and pushed him, he cracks up and the flower that sat in his hair fell off. Laying on his side, he picked up the magnolia and sat back up, placing the flower in its rightful place-- his hair.

"No, lemme finish, Y/n." He laughed and I threw him a big hmph and allowed him to continue on. I knew the story, but I've never heard it from his point of view. Plus, he was such a good storyteller.

"Anyway, where was I? Ah, yes dying bird--"

I smacked him and he laughed harder begging for forgiveness afterwards. With a red face, I avoided his eye contact and he attempted to tell the story once again.

"No, but believe me when I say this, we were so young at that time, I fell in love with your singing-- I did!" He reassured me when I shot him a glare, he laughed and held his stomach.

"We were like, what, 7? I remember walking with Mama, since I was the one who made her rain." He admits and smiles at the memory. I watched him and listened to his soothing voice as it filled the night. I felt my body relax a tiny bit.

"She got so fed up, she let me run around the village as Papa tried calming her down. It calmed a little-- clear skies." He threw his hand around to better express himself and I laughed, leaning back on the tree behind me.

"The weird thing was, I swore I saw a weird lookin' white bird flying in the air. But the more I followed it, the more it dawned on me that it had been a white flower all along. I hadn't realized it, but I ended up here." He gestures to the magnolia trees around us. My heart calmed and I could feel my eyes get droopy at the sound of his voice.

"It was magical then as it is now." He breathed and then continued on with an evil grin, "You wouldn't believe what happened next, Y/n." He says with a small chuckle and I hummed tiredly in reply. His smile widened, and he reached to fix my hair on my sleepy face.

"I heard you singing all the way from here." He says, "You were that loud." He reasoned softly and a small laughter escaped my lips. Camilo leans back into the tree and pulls my head onto his shoulder. I closed my eyes, feeling the vibration of his voice when he spoke.

"Your singing led me back to the village safely in the rain, Y/n." He says but a hint of gratitude stained his words not mockery. "When I came back, I distinctly recall spotting a little girl in a white dress."

A small smile tugged at my lips but I was too exhausted to let out a laugh now.

"She twirled with her dress spotted with raindrops. The skirt of her gown flared just a little above her kneecaps, and for a moment," he says with a hushed voice. My breath became heavy, but I was still listening... somewhat drifting in and out of sleep.

"... she looked like a beautiful flower-- like the ones I saw not too long ago."
