The next morning I woke up late...okay really late, but only because it was a Saturday and the week had been really hectic.

I had come in late last night and I was prepared to listen to my mom scolding me for half an hour, but when I came back she just asked me how my day was and gave a weak smile. It bothered me, I knew there was something worrying her because whenever I talked to her she gave short replies and gave permission for everything. For example, going to that party and coming home late. She didn't even ask for an explanation, on the other hand, Ethan did, but Stephan luckily saved me by saying I had some last minute science project to finish.

I finally get out of bed shrugging of any thoughts for now. After I brush my teeth and change into casual clothes I go downstairs with a cheery smile, today felt like a good day.

"Ethan, tell me what am I going to do?" I heard mom's faint voice from the kitchen as I went down the steps.

"It's okay Natalia, she'll understand, you're her mother and she knows you are looking out for her." I hear Ethan reply.

"What am I going to do if she gets mad?" This time mom's voice sounds like it'll crack, as if she's about to cry.

"Mom, what happened, are you okay?" I ask walking towards the counter where she's sitting, she looks up at me in surprise.

"Oh Bella, hey I didn't know you were awake." She sounded as if she was trying to cover up her teary expression.

"Yeah I just woke up, are you okay?" I ask in concern. She looks at Ethan who is patting her back, he clears his throat and walks towards the stove.

"Um why don't you have breakfast first, I made extra bacon today." Ethan says smiling. After a few seconds he passes me a plate of fried eggs with crispy bacon, I thank him eaten the bacon first.

"So Bella, I wanted to tell you something, but- I haven't been able to for a while." Mom says, and I notice she stutters, she's never nervous, especially while talking to me.

"What's that?" I ask focusing on my breakfast, Ethan takes off his apron and cleans the frying pan before sitting down next to mom.

"Um Sweety your father contacted me a month ago." Mom said, the bacon I joyfully chewed on felt suddenly tasteless and I looked at her in shock.

"Wh- why?" I asked.

"He wanted to meet with you." Mom said, I looked at her face and it had no emotion, she was hiding her expression so I wouldn't judge my decisions by her.

"Well what did you say."

"I...I refused him." She said nervously. I bit my lip as I slowly looked at her. She didn't even think that maybe I would want to meet my own father, the one who contributed to me being born, she didn't think that it would give me a peace of mind to meet him. I've always wondered what it would be like to have a father, I've always wanted to know why he left in the first place, and if he ever thought of me. I wanted to ask him why he contacted me after so many years and not earlier. How could mom not even ask me about it and just refuse to him?

I could feel tears start to form in my eyes and I looked down hoping she can't see them, I try to make them disappear but it only makes them worse.

"How could you not ask if I wanted to meet him?" I ask my voice cracking.
