I was awakened by the sound of rain and then just couldn't get back to sleep. My thoughts turned as much as turned around in bed to find back to sleep. At some point I realized that it no longer made sense. Carefully, so as not to disturb Roman, I climbed out of the soft bed and sat down in the large lounge chair by the window. I reached for the curtain and pulled it back a bit so I could look out. The moon stood high in the sky and bathed everything in shimmering light.

"Baby girl?" I heard Roman's tired voice say after a while.

"I'm here," I said softly as I looked over at him.

Roman sat up while his eyes searched for me in the dim light coming from the moon. He ran a hand through his hair. He wasn't quite awake.

"Why aren't you in bed?" he asked in a raspy voice.

"I can't sleep anymore. There's too much on my mind. Go back to sleep Ro. There's no reason why both of us should be awake." I explained, giving him a small smile. I just wasn't sure if he could even see it.

But instead of snuggling back into his pillow, he got up and came over to me. Roman knelt down in front of me and then looked at me with concern. A small crease formed between his brows.

"Come on, Y/N. Talk to me. What's going through that beautiful head of yours? I want to help you." he said.

I sighed deeply. I was torn whether to bring up the incident or not. We had talked about everything at dinner. And yet there was one thing I couldn't get out of my head.

"I'm just thinking about the incident with your ex." I finally admitted.

"Oh.... Baby, I promise I told you everything. I'm so sorry that happened. Do I... Do I need to be worried?" he wanted to know as he gently stroked my shin.

"No. We're going to be fine. I promise." I said, trying to smooth out the small crease with my fingertips.

"Then what is it that's keeping you awake?" he asked, looking at me inquiringly.

"I just wonder why she showed up here so suddenly, you know. The timing is very odd after all. And I regret not dragging her away from you by her fake blonde hair," I replied.

"You're right, it was odd. But what are you going to do about it?" he wanted to know.

"Hmm... I'm not so sure. I can only tell you that I have a strange feeling about this whole thing." I explained to him as I took a loose strand of his hair between my fingers and played with it.

"Do you want me to call her, maybe? I don't really want to do that, but we might get some answers that way." Roman suggested.

"That's an idea, but only with a small change. I'll call her." I said after thinking about it for a moment.

"Are you sure you want to do that?" he inquired.

I just nodded.

"Okay, come on then. Now is as good a time as any. Maybe you can catch her off guard and figure something out that way." he replied as he stood up and pulled me to my feet as well. Together we walked back to the bed where he immediately reached for his phone.

"I just need to unlock her number real quick." he said as he tapped away on his phone, handing it over just a little while later.

He had already dialed and while it rang I became a little impatient. After what felt like an eternity, she finally answered. The sound of her voice alone made me nauseous.

"Well hello Romy! How are you doing handsome? Did you miss me and want a repetition?" she asked in a disgusting sounding voice.

"Oh trust me when I tell you that Roman has no interest whatsoever in a repetition. But one thing you can be sure of... If I ever see you around my man again, your dentist is going to have some work to do." I replied, trying to sound threatening.

"Oh... um... so you're..." she stuttered.

"Yes, I am his girlfriend. And that remains that way despite your little stunt. I do have a question, though. Because I'm very sure that this thing stinks to high heaven, and I want answers. If I get the feeling that you're lying to me, then you can expect to get a sexual harassment charge.

Why did you show up here today of all days? Why were you all dressed up? Roman says he hasn't seen you in many months. So... why today and why did you throw yourself at him right away?" I asked in a sharp tone.

I heard her take a shaky breath. Panic was probably spreading through her. At least, that's how it sounded to me at the moment. It was good that she felt that way. Not only because it served her right. No, it was also because I thought I would get the answers I wanted.

Roman was sitting next to me on the bed and I could tell he was getting impatient, even agitated as I listened to her explanation. I took his hand in mine when I heard what had actually happened here.

"Is that all?" I finally asked.

"Yes, I swear that's it." she replied.

"Good, and one more thing... remember what I said before. You better not mess with me again. Don't tempt your fate. And maybe you should make better choices." I said before hanging up.

"So, what does she say?" Roman immediately wanted to know.

"You are not going to believe this! I can hardly believe it myself," I replied as I looked at him.

To say that I was shocked and angry was the understatement of the decade.
