I was frozen, unable to move as I watched the scene that resembled my worst day ever. I held my chest, unable to get any air into my lungs.
'Please...not again.'
I was struggling in my mind whether to intervene as I did before with Luke or let it play out on its own. I didn't know Haru well enough but I couldn't stand by idly and let this play out in front of me. Before I could make myself known to the gang member, a hand wraps around my waist and pulls me back. Another hand covers my mouth.
"Don't move." A familiar voice whispers in my ear. I nod, letting him know I was ok. I turn my head towards the person and glare into his eyes.
"Seriously? What the hell did you do!" I whispered aggressively. Daisuke focuses his attention to Haru, who still stood frozen at the gang member.
"I did what was necessary."
I growled in frustration. I was fuming that he messed up the operation and put Haru into this mess. Now all I could do was watch the scene play out till the end. Daisuke quickly looks at me, his eyes showing some sort of concern. He pulls up his sleeve and holds in a button on his watch.
"HEUSC, initiate bomb two."
Within a couple seconds, another explosion happens behind the gang member, startling him. Before he can recollect himself, Haru quickly runs over and punches the gun out of his hand. He quickly takes down the member and handcuffs him. Haru holds out his gun, looking around for any other suspects. I was relieved that Haru would be ok but my rage started to envelope me. I turned around and shoved Daisuke back.
"Are you insane!? What part of "follow my lead" do you NOT understand!? How the hell are we supposed to find out anything when you scare them off!"
Daisuke was unfazed by my reaction, knowing it would piss me off. He brushed off his suit and walked away from me towards Haru and the gang member. Haru threw his arms up in the air.
"We're supposed to be observing! Not arresting! And you just blew all of this up like an idiot!"
Haru continues to yell at Daisuke as I walk over to them. I started to regret my decision of teaming up with the two of them, not realizing how reckless Daisuke really was. I sighed, deciding that this partnership wasn't going to work out.
"I'm sorry, but this isn't working out with us. I can't work with someone who is this reckless. I'm a professional and this is just an embarrassment to me. I'm going to work on this alone for now on."
Before I could get their responses, I turned and dialed a number into my phone. After a few rings, I heard the familiar voice.
J - "Hello Ms (l/n)"
Y - "Mr. Johnston..I'm calling to inform you that I will no longer be working the the police here. I believe that I will be able to infiltrate and get more information if I am to work alone."
J - If that is what you choose. Just be careful out there."
Y - "I will. Thank you."
Still not wanting to look at them, I leave the area and find my way back to my hotel.
I was up all night trying to figure out what I would do next. I knew I needed a different plan as Daisuke made a huge mess and possibly could've blown my cover. Liz called me and informed me of a masquerade ball that was happening in a few days that was being hosted by some rich guy. I got all the details and waited for the day to come where I would try to find the true leader of this whole terrorist attack operation.
A few days went by and I didn't do much. I went to the police department to inform them I would be working alone on the case but would keep them updated. I hadn't spoken to Haru or Daisuke since that day at the loading docks. I had nothing against Haru, but I wanted nothing to do with Daisuke. His arrogance and idiocy drove me insane. Even if he was extremely handsome, dealing with someone like him would be bad for my work and my image.
Tonight was the masquerade ball, which I knew was only a stunt to mask the black market auction going on below it. I needed to be able to get into the auction, so I had to be extremely seductive tonight. I hated doing it but men were just too easy to trick, especially with an attractive woman like myself. I was thankful everyone would be wearing masks so it would be easier to blend in and stay disguised.
Liz ended up being able to get me a ticket for the ball last minute. I had Liz send me some clothing for the ball, wanting to make sure I was the center of attention. I picked up the dress and smirked.
'Im going to avenge you mom and dad....and Luke."
