"Good morning (l/n)!" Liz yells to me from across the room as she spins in her chair at her cubicle. I give her a small wave with one hand while holding a large cup of coffee in the other. Steam rises from the cup as I make my way to my desk in the opposite corner of the room. I take a sip of the delicious brew before setting the cup down onto the coaster, pulling the chair in from behind me and sitting down. Clicking on my computer, I get the files needed from my previous mission up, skimming through the papers that scatter all over my desk. From behind me, I hear someone creak in their chair as I continue organizing the mess in front of me. The creaking continues, causing my eyebrows to raise in annoyance. I turn around and look at the bubbly blonde smiling behind me, showing her perfect white teeth as she smiled.
"I had so much fun Saturday night with you! I never knew you could loosen up so much!"
I chuckled at Liz. I wasn't surprised she would think I couldn't have fun. I mainly focused on my career, so going out to clubs with colleagues was never my thing. "Just because I'm serious on the job doesn't mean I'm like that every second of my life Liz."
Liz played with her hair, wrapping some of it around her finger and gently tugging it. "You know what I mean. Then again we never hang out outside the office so I wouldn't of known. Anyways, I heard there's a huge case going on and boss is going to be choosing one of us to go! How exciting!" Liz clapped her hands together, excitement taking over her. I sighed, setting down the documents I held in my hands onto my desk again. I wasn't fond of Liz getting excited over cases. Majority of them involved people getting hurt or worse..killed. My facial expression goes unmoved, causing Liz to stir a bit.
"Cases aren't something to be excited over. It means there's someone suffering."
Liz's smile slowly drains from her lips, causing a frown to take it's place. "I like the Saturday night (y/n) better." Liz pouts, scooting her chair back over to her own desk. I shake my head giggling, leaning back in my chair and staring at the door of boss's office, which just so happens to open at the same time. I watch as Mr. Johnston walks over to me, a serious expression plastered on his face. I straightened myself up in my chair, showing him my professionalism.
"Step into my office Ms. (l/n)." The tall, mature man turns back around and heads back into his office. I notice the glares of all my coworkers around me as I slowly get up. I fix my pants and scoot my chair in, making my way to the office door. Before heading inside, I glance over at Liz who stares back at me with a neutral expression, which quickly changes to a cheerful smile. She gives me a thumbs up, which caused a small smirk to escape on my lips. Walking into the office, I shut the door behind me and walk over to the chair that sits in front of his desk. As I sit down, I cross my legs and place my hands on my lap. I knew exactly what was going on as it was very normal for me. Mr. Johnston cough's, clearing his throat. "I'm sure you've heard about the big case we got in today, correct?"
I nod, confirming his question. "Yes sir."
He smiles, continuing on with his explanation. "We have reason to believe a terrorist attack is being planned in a city in Japan. We don't have many details about it, but the Metropolitan Police Department from the city have been working non stop trying to figure out if their information is accurate. They asked us for our best undercover agent to go and run the case. Reason I'm telling you this is because you are the best in the field."
My lips curl into a grin, honored that he would pick me to run this huge case. I have always been passionate about saving others from the evils of this world, so to be able to go to a different country and help them was incredible. "I'd be honored to lead this case. I won't let you down, sir." I reach my hand out to shake his, giving him a firm handshake. Before walking out the office, I hear him call out my name, causing me to turn around a bit too eagerly. I was excited to start this mission and save more people. He noticed my eagerness, causing him to chuckle and smile. "You'll be leaving in the morning. We have someone from their team picking you up from the airport when you land. Jeremy will give you the rest of the details as well as your equipment. Good luck (y/n)."
