Days after Liz's death, we all were able to go home. Before leaving the hospital in the U.S, a nurse handed me an envelope that had my name on it. I walk out the back door of Daisuke's home to the backyard and sit on the bench. I open the envelope and pull out the paper inside, opening it slowly. I gasp as I notice at the bottom that it was written by Liz. Tears pool in my eyes and I breath slowly as I scan the words of the letter.
Dear y/n,
I really struggled writing this so I hope that you can get through it without rolling your eyes or anything. This is a serious moment. So I'm writing this as you are on the plane heading to Japan. You have always been the one I could go to for everything whether it would be boy problems, helping me save money or even when I had a flat tire on my car. I could always go to you, but there is this side of me that you don't know of. She's not a girl I want people to know. You know the real me. The me that is bubbly, goofy, and loud. The happy one. I just want you to always remember that every single moment we have spent together was the real me. You're my best friend and I will always have your back. I'd take a bullet for you because I just love you so much. Speaking of love, I finally realized that I am in love with Jeremy. I know you'll lecture me again on the work relationship crap, but I genuinely can see myself having a family with this guy. Y/n...he's the one. I know for a fact that you will be happy for me. And you'll be the maid of honor obviously if I ever get married. You better get married one day too so I can help you plan it! And of course I will deal with the bachelorette party wink wink. Ugh, I'm just so excited thinking about it. Man, I'm just rambling on. I know you'll be super focused on this assignment, and it's going to be a difficult on, but I want you to know that no matter what happens, I am always on your side. No matter what happens, promise me you will forgive me. Maybe after all of this we can chill at your place and have a movie night with a bunch of junk food and wine. Love you girl.
Your bestie, Liz
I held the letter to my chest and sobbed loudly. I wanted to rewind time. I wanted to save her from the same fate Luke had. Why was I meant to live while they both died? I feel an arm wrap around my shoulders and look over at the familiar friendly face. Haru looks down at the letter and his lips turn downward. I wipe my eyes and try my best to fake a smile.
"It's a letter from Liz...she wanted me to know the truth. The truth of her always being my friend. That dummy...I always knew." I sighed. I leaned my head on Haru's shoulder as he gently stroked my hair. "We're all here for you. Don't beat yourself up over her death and blame yourself." Haru replied.
"How can I not blame myself? She jumped in front of me and took that bullet for me...the same as Luke. Why did they have to die for me to live?" I choked out. Haru rubbed my shoulder and leaned his head onto mine.
"Because they loved you and I wanted to protect you. Believe it or not, you're a very lovable person." Haru laughed as he nudged me. I smiled a little, nudging him back. "I guess." I replied. Haru stood up and held his hand out to me. I grabbed a hold of it and followed him as he lead me back into the house. Daisuke stood inside and smiled as we walked over to him. Suzue ran up to Haru and placed a kiss on his lips. Haru's face turned bright red as he wasn't expecting it. He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.
I cleared my throat to break up their pda and laughed as Suzue bit her lip in embarrassment. She mouthed sorry as she dragged Haru off to another room. I looked over at Daisuke who took a hold of my hands and kissed them gently. "So have you decided what you wanted to do." He asked me. I could only assume he meant what my plans were for the future. After reading Liz's letter and just trying to collect myself, I did come to a decision.
"I have...I'm going to go back to the U.S." I confirmed. I watched as Daisuke's expression turned sad which hurt my heart. I smiled and shook my head as I placed my hands on his cheeks. "I mean I have to go back to pack up all of mine and Liz's things so I can bring them here." I smiled. Daisuke's eyes grew wide and in that instant, he wrapped his arms around me, spinning me around in the air. We both laughed and once he set me down, I regain my balance and place my lips onto his for a quick peck.
"Before we do that, there's just one thing that you have to answer for me." Daisuke grinned. I cock my head to the side in confusion and my eyes grow wide as he goes down on one knee in front of me. I place my hands on my face and feel the tears on my hands. I look back down and sniffle as Daisuke pulls out a gorgeous ring in a black box.
"y/n, m/n, l/n... Even though we've only known each other for a short amount of time, I don't want to waste any more time alone. You've completely stolen my heart. I want to grow a family with you and grow old with you and beyond that. You deserve everything and I want to take care of you until my last breath. Let me be a part of your heart and help you heal. Let me love you with everything I have in me. I'm so in love with you. I love you y/n. Will you marry me?" Daisuke said. The biggest smile plants on my face and I hand him my left hand.
"Yes." I beamed. He slides the ring onto my left ring finger and pulls me into him, kissing me passionately. Lifting me up bridal style, he spins us around and laughs joyously. This was the happiest I've ever seen him and it just made me love him so much more.
"I love you Daisuke Kambe." I yelled out. He laughs and kisses me again. Haru and Suzue run back out and start to cheer and whistle as if they knew what Daisuke was planning.
"Ah! I can't wait to call you my sister!" Suzue yelled. Haru smiled widely and gave me a little wink. I scrunched my face in joy as we all celebrated this moment together. For the first time in a long time, I felt like things were going to be ok.
